Eh, I used it a few times, but not long enough to have my own opinion on it. I've heard plenty of grumbling about it, though. Of all the versions of windows, I guess I liked 2000 the best (if I can I say I liked windows.) Pretty stable, no excess GUI nonsense- just straight to the point. XP and it's activation nonsense I won't get into, but it's a real pain (maybe if people stopping pirating the damn thing
As for classic Mac OS, I never installed things that I didn't trust, and I went through my Extensions every so often to get rid of things I didn't need anyway. For example, I installed OS 9 on my TAM. After installing, I used Extension Manager to disable extensions I didn't need, like FireWire, USB, the internal modem, the Rio MP3 player extension, etc. Each extension that loads ads to the amount of memory used by the Finder and I managed to reduce it by 5 or 10mb.
As for repairing permissions, I never had to do that with Linux or any of the other UNIX flavors I've used.
