This is available IF and ONLY IF you fail the credit check such that you will need to have a deposit in order to secure a 2 year contract. It is the cost of the pick your plan option (starts at $30 for 200 minutes, no nights and weekends) plus the $20 for the iPhone data plan. So minimum $50. Up to a maximum of $90 for the 650 min plan and iPhone data.

Where does it say that you need to pony up a deposit on that document? If you fail the credit check, you can pick a plan as you mentioned and use data/voice limited to what you paid for. I don't see any reason why they would ask you to pay a deposit since this essentially works as a PayG plan.

Yeah, I'm confused to say the least here. Very very odd. Let me see if this is correct:

-Must go through a credit check
-If credit is in question, you will have to pony up a deposit ($250?)
-If credit is shot, you can pick a prepaid plan and no deposit?

Doesn't make sense. I'm stopping by my local store at lunch to sort this out.

I think you misunderstood. The PayG plan is an alternative to plunking down a $750 deposit to have the postpaid monthly 2-year contract.

So does a go phone require any money down?

I already have my ban number but I would love to do this no contract.

So Im getting penalized for having good credit?

ok guys im pretty sure most people here are NOT att users and will be switching for the iPhone. Someone who really knows and can explain it well, will you explain what the difference is between the orignal plans and this go phone plan. Does this mean you can buy the iphone use it for a month with service then stop. If not, what is the difference between paying like this and having a post paid plan. Basically explain to the people like me, will we be able to use the iPhone without paying huge monthely fees to ATT because of this.

Thanks,

Daniel

um this is good news for people who are international students or people that just moved to the country.. however, im neither, but im sure if you were you're rejoicing to your favorite music !! :):):apple:

Man for the first time that I can remember.. My A++ credit rating is actually a negative. :p

If your credit is bad no deposit required

able to choose pick your plan

Must change your phone number not allowed to keep your old one.

visual voicemail uses data part of device can not separate as of now.

Yes, pick your plan is not prepaid cards...must have a checking account or debit card... every month same amount deducted...yes, you can cancel after 1 day 1 month or 3 months... no cancel fees.

Wow there has been allot of scarcasm on these forums. Some people can't express their opinion without making others feel small.

Hmm, pre-paid? I think it is a great idea, but if you can afford an iphone then chances are, you can afford the deposit and plan. Just a thought, but I could be wrong.

Yea, but why get tied up into a contract when you can afford not to! Next year, when iPhone v2.0 comes out, wouldn't it be nice to be able to get that without renewing your contract. Also, what if for some reason, one had to cancel the contract, atleast you save $175 ETF for not being on the darn 2 year contract!

anybody, who suggests others to mess up their credit history, needs to be hammered. Such an absurd idea need to be hammered as well.

The only way to do this is to be required to hand over a deposit in exchange for being offered a 2 year contract. If you have the credit to get a 2 year contract, you cannot use the phone in an off contract situation. The fees for pick your plan are steep relative to the regular 2 year contract lines.

Getting the iPhone as a pick your plan phone is ONLY an alternative to having to give a deposit. You are required to set up automatic payments for the bill, and the iPhone data plan is a required add on at $20. Bear in mind that the gophone markets are smaller in service area than the regular wireless markets.

anyway, plan prices are:
$30 for 200 anytime minutes and nothing else (no nights and weekends, etc.) plus $20 for the iPhone plan = $50/mo.

$40 for 300 anytime minutes, 1000 night and weekend minutes, + $20 for the iPhone plan = $60/mo.

$50 for 400 minutes and unlimited nights and weekends + $20 for iPhone plan = $70/mo.

$70 for 650 minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited mobile to mobile + $20 iphone plan = $90/mo.

Obviously these are a crappy deal compared to the 2 year contract prices, but it's not going to be available to many people anyway.

The difference is that you are required to set up automatic payments, and you can't go over the set amount you have. You also can't add things like text packages, etc. And it's possible that AT&T may still make you commit for 2 years on the iPhone data plan, even if the minutes aren't under contract, so it might really not be all that great of an idea.

Very true. I see your point.

Well, there were a lot of people complaining about not being able to pass credit check because they are students or just came into summer money so i guess these are the people who are going to be awfully happy about this! Also, its nice to see that Apple is not leaving the credit-poor folks on the street which i believe is a VERY smart move on their part.

....if you can afford an iphone then chances are, you can afford the deposit and plan.

Not really, the iPhone is cheap compared to even the lowest cost plan. A two year contract for $60 a month is $1440 the iPhone itself cost roughly half as much as the airtime that is bundled with it.

To put this into perspective. I use a Verison pre-paid phone. my average cost including the price of the phone and air time is under $10 per month.

cool, i hope i can just use the sim from my gophone i have now until i decide on a plan

How are they handling current at&t customers both gophone and regular subscriptions?

You would think there would be something in the activation that says are you currently an at&t customer? If so what is your number. With that and some other ID information it would be able to quickly tell if you need a deposit, are just fine to activate or already are a gophone(?) user.

Sorry if this has already been covered SOMEWHERE but these threads are getting out of hand...

Current Customers???

Any word on whether this applies to current AT&T customers. I switched to AT&T 5 months ago failed the credit check and paid the deposit (first and last month fees) will I have to do it again?
