So, there's hope that pre paid is an option. It's a deal breaker for me so let's hope it's true.

So..from the actual FAQ:

Q. What if I currently have a GoPhone?
A. You will need to activate iPhone on a new account with a new phone number.

I wonder if said "new account" would be prepaid or Pick Your Plan. That's the question, isn't it?

Just stating that one would have to activate a new account leaves some important questions unanswered. Does it mean, "yes, we'll be offering a prepaid option but you will be required to change your number."?

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering too. I'm sure AT&T is going to push the contract and the prepaid plans will take a backseat. It does seem sort of odd that they'd make you get a new phone number though...

I noticed yesterday when watching the keyboard video that the AT&T EULA on iTunes definitely had 2 headings on it - one for the 2 year contract and one for what seemed to be pre pay. I will try and take a screen grab in a minute.

I wouldn't get too excited. The EULA is intended to cover any anticipated future issues over the projected lifetime of the software, so this in no way indicates that prepaid plans are imminent.

iPhone Terms and Conditions

"Prepaid/GoPhone customers: Transactions will be debited from your account balance at the time of the transaction. If there are insufficient funds in your account at the time of the transaction, you will not be able to complete your purchase or receive the requested services."

The quote above is about midway down the page, under II. ADDITIONAL TERMS FOR SPECIFIC DATA SERVICES : DirectBill Service.

And from the Games FAQ:

Q. What is AT&T DirectBill?

A. This service lets AT&T customers purchase products from AT&T-preferred merchants and conveniently charges the purchases to their monthly AT&T bill.

Still not exactly sure what all this means.

Well i hope there is a Pay As You Go Service when the phone launches in the UK , Me and my mate Eddie are both unemployed at the moment and i do not think we would pass the credit checks somehow.

Finances

I am sure part of the plan is that the rebates that go to customers will go to Apple as revenue. I think Apple has a great product but I am concerned that they will kill the goose that might lay them the golden egg!!!

$600 for a phone plus signing up for a $30 a month plan- no subsidies, rebates or money back!!!! Who is going to buy????

Unfortunately the consumer orientated feedback will be that iphone broke all records on the first day for sales and they did the same thing for the second day. On the first day they sold millions, on the second they sold none!!!

Apple is locking their product into a small market. I think Steve Jobs has done amazing things, but I hope this doesn't bring him unstuck!!!

I wonder if on the contract you AT&T might be working on some form of a rebate. I.e. you buy the phone and over the period of the contract you might get the money back??? I.e. for a $30 a month you get back $5 over the two years etc. and more for the more expensive contracts?????

"BILL OF NO RIGHTS

The following was written by State Representative Mitchell Kaye
from Cobb County, GA......."

I hope this just ain't made up.

Nuthin like good ole trailer park wisdom to shame a feller into avoiden any pre-paid commie plan.

No offense, but having been an employee of Cingular there is NO chance of this happening. Interesting concept though. :)

I know you can do a sort of prepaid minutes on the Iphone but can you just buy a Cingular to go sim and would it work?

Not sure. Someone in another thread (over in the iPhone section of the forum) mentioned being able to just enter all zero's when filling out the SSN part of the activation and getting offered the Pre paid option.
