Predict Apple's 2 year roadmap!

    Hi all,

    thought I would try my hand a predicting Apple's 5 year roadmap and launch some interesting discussion. Here's what I reckon

    Late 2011

    iPhone 5
    -8MP camera
    -Dual core A5 processor
    -Thinner, wider form factor
    -Larger screen, same resolution.

    Macbook Pro
    - Air inspired design for all models
    - 13" Macbook Pro dropped, making 11" 13" 15" 17" variants in the same range.
    -Optial drive dropped
    -SSD only

    Mac Pro
    - Sandy Bridge XEON refresh
    - Octo core dual CPU
    - Tweaked design, allowing for rackmounted or freestanding


    Early 2012

    iPad 3
    - HiDPI (retina)
    - Improved GPU/CPU
    - Same form factor
    - Slightly tapered design

    Apple TV
    - 1080p compatible
    - iCloud streaming of content

    iMac
    - Ivy bridge refresh
    - Same design
    - Upgrade AMD graphics

    Mid 2012

    Macbook Air/Pro
    - Ivy Bridge refresh
    - High DPI
    - Upgraded GPU
    - All new liquid metal inspired design refresh

    Mac Mini
    - Smaller form factor
    - Ivy Bridge refresh
    - Upgraded CPU

    Late 2012

    Mac Pro
    - Ivy bridge XEON refresh
    - 12 core dual CPU

    iPhone 6
    - Same form factor
    - NFC built in
    - 4G/LTE
    - Higher capacity
    - Upgraded CPU/GPU

    Cinema Display
    - HiDPI

    iMac
    - Liquid metal design
    - HiDPI screen

    Early 2013

    iOS 6
    - NFC features built in
    - iTunes match becomes free
    - Stream iTunes collection from anywhere.
    - Airplay 1080p
    - Improved gestures

    - Upgraded GPU

    iPad 4
    - Upgrade CPU/GPU
    - New memory sizes
    - New design, edge to edge display
    - HD camera in LCD
    - Home button removal

    Mid 2013

    iPhone 7th Generation
    - Dropping of numbering system, now only iPhone
    - Edge to edge design
    - Home button removal

    Mac Mini
    - Haswell upgrade
    - upgraded GPU

    Late 2013

    iMac
    - Haswell refresh
    - edge to edge LCD
    - HD camera integrated to centre of LCD panel (perfect eye to eye contact for facetime)

    Macbook Air/Pro
    - edge to edge LCD
    - Upgraded GPU

    Cinema Display
    -Edge to Edge, intergrated Facetime HD camera

    In late 2011 you might see a spec bump in MBP.
    You may also see the addition of a 15" MBA.

    Apple WILL continue to sell laptops with optical drives and HDD's into and through 2012. You might be right about the 13" though, i bet that goes down the same path as the white MB in a year or so.

    Out of all the predictions I made, I figured the loss of optical drive would be the most likely thing to happen. What makes you think optical drive will remain in 2012?

    Late 2013 - 40"+ Cinema Display with built in Apple TV.
