Here my prediction:

iPhone 8S features 16mp camera, A12, Face ID, LCD, 4.7" price £750.
iPhone XS 16mp, A12 camera, Touch ID, OLED, Pro motion, 128gb £1050.
iPhone XS plus over 6", 16mp camera, A12, Touch ID, OLED, Pro motion, 500Gb £1600.

Any other predictions?

Updated 4" phone (SE)
Iphone 7
Iphone 8
iPhone X
Update to iPhone X

Aside from an updated SE, I believe the 8 will be the last "new" bezel iPhone Apple will ever make

SE 2
7/7+
8/8+
9/9+
iPhone X-2 (or whatever they will call it)

My guess is they're struggling to keep pushing the ever-escalating tech down the price scale, so think we'll keep the ultra-expensive top end trio, with a couple of more reasonable options and the SE for those who want the smaller form factor.

9 and 9 plus with OLED or LCD?

Probably LCD unless there's a dramatic drop in the cost of the panels - apparently oled on average is now cheaper than LCD as it's easier to produce, but for whatever reason the Xs panel is very expensive (I'm thinking maybe because they pushed for RGB stripe rather than pentile)

Yes perhaps they will bring Face ID as the new upgrade but keep the LCD? I think new cameras would sell Apple is rumoured to be upping the mega pixels.

Rumour of more mega pixels above.

Yeah probably something like that, maybe another tweak to the design (or at least the colours on offer).

They could do a lot of different things to be honest including just releasing a 7s and 8s at the same price points as the 7 and 8 featuring updated stuff (A11 in 7s A12 in 8s, maybe camera bumps for both, etc).

Yes I wonder if it will be called IPhone 9 or 8S. Or perhaps they might scrap the 8 range in favour of all OLED? Surely not likely though as they won't pitch the IPhone at £1000 entry level.

I would expect:

  • iPhone 11 - 5.2"-5.5"
  • iPhone 11 Plus - 6.2" or larger
  • iPhone X - dropped
  • iPhone 8 - carryover
  • iPhone 8 Plus - carryover

Keep in mind Apple is trying to get all of its iPhones from top to bottom on OLED by tapping into LG production lines. In all likelihood, smaller OLED panels will be less expensive to produce.

LG can focus on the volume 5.2"-5.5" model while Samsung can focus on the 6.2"+ model.

The iPhone X has many new technologies and I would be surprised if Apple kept it as-is. Given how late the model was finalized, I expect next year's mainstream models will be largely redesigned.

Yeah I think they've gone back to a 3 tier lineup (like they had originally) because they're struggling to keep to a set price for all the new tech. Basically you can think of the line as newest, middle, oldest (as was the case, for e.g. With the 4s, 4, 3GS) with the SE and X filling two separate niches (smaller form factor and model that allows for a higher bill of materials/ components to debut new expensive tech).

We will either have two LCD models again or one LCD and two OLED I think. The last one more likely. I think they will ditch the LCD plus in favour of OLED.

I agree with this.

I'm sure eventually they will go all oled, and I'm sure eventually the oled tech will drop lower than their current LCDs cost (oled can be 3D printed whereas LCD needs to be manufactured in discrete sheets and bonded) but I'm not sure that'll be the case by next year, we'll have to see...

I'm just hoping that Apple will take the iPhone X redesign, and then position it as the standard $700-800 flagship next year. The iPhone 8 design is FOUR years old, it's almost embarrassing that Apple is still selling it at a premium.

Personally, I feel that the iPhone X should be the standard $700-800 flagship. It shouldn't be an upsell from a four-year-old design (iPhone 8). I'm hoping that what we'll see next year is a couple of different sizes of the iPhone X design for $700 and $800, and the older iPhone 8, 7, etc., at $600 and $500 respectively. The iPhone X design should become the standard design language beginning next year. But this is Apple we'll talking about. TBD.

I doubt it will happen.

iPhone X might drop by £100. But if it does there will prob be a XS.

They couldn't nix the X. It's iPhone's tenth anniversary, hence iPhone Ten

They could have, they chose not to. iPhone ten is a poor anniversary model. It's not even ready to ship. They should have abandoned it when they knew it wasn't representative of how good the iPhone has been.
