Is Predictive Text a "smart" feature? Does it learn my sentence structure and commonly used words over time?

Sometimes it works great, allowing me to nearly type entire sentences without pressing a single letter key. Other times however, it makes horrible suggestions or no suggestion at all?

the same thing happens to me is more of a hit or miss thing.

Same here. Sometimes it is uncanny how well it predicts and other times it is a curse!

Sometimes I just want to type a "K" to respond to a text message and my wise iPhone 6+ changes it to an "I"! We can pretend we are pirates (aye)!:p

Yes. The predictions are also context-sensitive based on the conversation.

"Now you can write entire sentences with a few taps. Because as you type, you’ll see choices of words or phrases you’d probably type next, based on your past conversations and writing style. iOS 8 takes into account the casual style you might use in Messages and the more formal language you probably use in Mail. It also adjusts based on the person you’re communicating with, because your choice of words is likely more laid back with your spouse than with your boss. Your conversation data is kept only on your device, so it’s always private."

I turned this completely OFF. It's so annoying.
