Hello all, I have a question about the preference folder.
I was wondering if it is safe to delete all the content in the User's and System's Preference folder. Reason I'm asking is because I uninstalled a lot of old programs that I didn't need anymore and didn't want to keep all the preference files. I could go through the folder and delete the ones that I don't want but there's over 300+ folders in there.
Thanks

Well, I don't think it would be a complete disaster, but deleting entire system folders doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Most applications can recreate their preferences, but everything will be reset to default. But don't take my word for it; I'm sure some more experienced users will be able to tell you for sure.

I wouldn't. It'll revert all of your system and application settings to their default. You'll have to reconfigure everything from your email account settings to your Dock items.

If you do, restart immediately afterwards.

Or... you could oh so slowly shift through every single file.
Preference files don't take up that much space. I wouldn't worry about it. 😎
