I would appreciate some help.
My system preference pane has changed such that System line now displays
Accts-- Date&time-- software update--and two icons that now look like like wall light switches-- universal access.
How do I get rid of the icons that look like light switches and get back the icons for speech and startup disk

not sure what's goin on here... did you install any third party preference panes? is it remedied by a simple log out or restart?

Quit System Preferences and go to /Library/Caches and drag a file called "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache" to your desktop. Open system preferences and see if it's fixed now. If it's fixed, you could delete that file you dragged.
