Always part of the plan. Then when people push back they add a “free” ad tier. Still surprised people even pay for this stuff routinely, especially the Meta junk.
Yeah exactly, Those who pay for either have enough money to spend or are simply not well informed about corporations practices.

You guys can pay to not see Ads? The only thing I was aware of is to pay to promote your page or something.
I deleted my Facebook account around 2014, then in 2016 I created another one with the same credentials, they actually prevented me from doing that until I wrote to them, and they ask for a picture of myself, I uploaded an old one from 2011 and they unlock it, look like they do not delete the account after all.
Time to time when you open the app, it pops up but it’s also buried in menus as well.

Whats interesting though, Facebook asks for £3.99/month but Instagram asks for £2.99/month. IMG_1263.jpegIMG_1264.png

Facebook should add the ability for users to pay either a one-time fee or a monthly fee to have the ability to upload higher quality resolution photos than we can currently upload. The image quality- (especially for when we are sharing travel pictures with friends and family) is awful and I would PAY to be able to share images that actually show the detail of the high quality iPhone camera that I’m paying a lot for!

It was the main reason people joined these social networks in the first place!

Youre joking right?

I'm not going to use meta products for free let alone pay for them.

note: although sadly I 'have' to use WhatsApp as it's the lingua franca of messaging systems in the UK (and anywhere not the USA, China or Japan).

so effectively you can now pay them to be dater-mined and have your photos and comments scraped for AI instead of for free, bargain

They should have either planned to provide the service for a fee and kept customer data retained, or provide the service for free and sold user data. They did the latter, and now are trying to do only the downsides of the first option. I deleted my FB account years ago, and don't have any accounts with these other services. I can't imagine any possible feature that would make me want to create/recreate accounts and engage with their services.

"The subscriptions will reportedly include exclusive features to aid creativity, productivity, and expanded AI capabilities."

So bascially they are adding AI capabilities and charging to help people to cheat.

Seems like the AI bubble is about to burst. Companies, surprisingly all of them, are now looking into ways to monetize the money pit they sank their money into. For Google it amounts to a sweet deal with Apple, which basically amounts to a discount of the money the pay yearly to be the default search engine on the iPhone. For ChatGPT is it not clear and they have no clue. For Meta it seems to be to create some sort of subscription for some sort of added capability of a product (it makes me laugh that the selling pitch is "view stories anonymously", looking forward to the lawsuits there and opening up so many stalking problems that I cannot even imagine).
Meanwhile established brands with subscription already have a revenue stream and customers "accustomed" to paying. Adobe, Microsoft Office, Apple, Soptify, all the streaming giants.
Hate to break it to you, but AI isn't going anywhere...nor is the "bubble about to burst"

Don’t have any of them, and I left Twitter before it was X.
Social media is where the 😈 thrives.

AI on the other hand can be useful at times.

Indeed, but specifically Apple users have already paid enough don't ya think?

Let the FB userbase cover the "Dye" overheads and the Berg can face the crowd. 😉
Yeah big Apple, they drive all these companies, now we are going to have subscription for iWork, all the same.
Facebook on the other might actually pull it off since most small businesses in underdeveloped countries relied on it, and since everyone (non techie individual) are jumping on the AI train, I see a lot of people actually subscribing.

there is not a snowball’s chance in hell that i would give meta any money. i can live with the sponsored ads. i’m not giving meta a single cent. i’m fine with the features already available considering i don’t post a lot and i mainly just interact with posts. the only app i really use is instagram anyway.

meta collects enough data from its user base as it is, i don’t know how anyone can warrant giving them their payment data on top of that.

I don't like what these companies have been doing over the past 20 years. They always create some free services, let the users to rely on them while collecting their information for over a long period. Once the users get hooked, charge them.

I never got the pops up and I never bother to look at the Ads preferences

At least from my understanding of what they are going for here, these paid tiers are maybe for creators and businesses who are creating content for mass audiences on these platforms and not necessarily for everyday users. If they ever introduce a subscription just to use these services then I'm out.

I would only pay a premium if Facebook only showed me content on people and groups I've followed. No more sponsored content or suggestions.
