Right now I’m on VZW prepaid and I want to preorder iPhone X on the 27th, I’m going to pay full price for the no-contract version. Will I be able to preorder on Apple’s website using my VZW prepaid account as long as I’m paying full price?

Don't think it's possible. That's one of the advantages of a postpaid account. You are pretty much stuck waiting for the sim free model. :(

Maybe I’d be better off taking my currently unlocked 7+ to Sprint temporarily just so I can preorder an unlocked full price X on the 27th....then leave Sprint and go back to VZW

Bummer. I was planning on picking up a cheap pre-pad VZ phone next week so I could purchase a Verizon model full price on pre-order morning.

I thought as long as you have a VZ phone number and an online account with Verizon to manage it with, you could preorder a VZ model?

Nah I was in the same situation last week lol. When u click on Verizon on apples site it won’t recognize your account if you have prepaid. Same goes with Verizon’s site, you must have postpaid. I switched to postpaid and got approved for 10 lines no deposit, just so I could preorder. ‍♂️Worked out.

There is currently a way to order a device from Verizon’s website without having to sign up for service. You are paying full retail and of course it’s unlocked. The ordering method has been detailed on an Android website called Droid Life. I haven’t tried it but the owner of the website stated that he’s ordered two phones already using this method.

Update: Looks like Verizon is aware of this loophole and they might have updated the website. Sorry.

I'm in essentially the same situation as the OP. I have been a Verizon customer for 20 years, but currently have a flip phone on a pre-paid plan. I wanted to order the X iPhone for Verizon via the pre-order to Apple and pay full price at the time of purchase. In fact, I was just about ready to post this same question on this forum but no need for that now. The answer certainly isn't good news. Really don't want to mess around with changing my existing plan or changing providers until I get a new phone.

Looks like plan B will be to just wait for a few months (year?) until there is adequate supply from Apple.

Even though the pre-order looks as if it won't work out for me, I do have one related question:

On a pre-ordered Verizon phone purchased from Apple, can it be delivered to the Apple Store for pickup? If so, can the Apple Store people get it set up for me on a Verizon post-paid plan or would I need to take it to a Verizon store?

Thanks.

You can't preorder unless its postpaid. Their website will ask you for you number, zip, & last four of social.

Can't do it on the Verizon website. After I login to my prepaid account and try to select iPhone X it gives the error "Customer does not exist OR access to this customer is restricted." So you'll either need to wait in line at an Apple store on Nov. 3 or wait for the SIM-free model in a few weeks.
