I know someone must have maybe started a similar thread (so sorry...)

I dont have the funds to preorder my watch on the 10th, but I will be getting some money in the week of the 15....

I want to get the watch on the day it comes out, If I preorder it about a week after preorders start, will I still get it on the launch day??

Or am I better off trying to go to the store?

I believe that they don't charge until your product ships, so you should be able to pre-order on the 10th.

I pre-ordered my new iPhone the last two years specifying in store pickup, it was a great way to be sure I got them on day one. In fact each year when I buy new CTO MBP Models I designate those for in store pickup as well. That way I can be assured of immediate assistance if they are scratched or dinged as the last two have been. I don't get blamed.

You are correct

Though they may not charge you until the product ships, they do ping your bank account to see if you have the funds available if not the sale will be declined.

I'm in the same boat in wondering what to do on Preorder Day. Just to be on the safe side, I took the day off from work, since I never do, and my boss was more than happy to do it, so he can see me bring in yet another gizmo that I can show off in the office and help other users who will likely be buying one to hook up to their firm-issued iPhones.

What I'll likely do is stay up until 3AM ET on the 10th (or take a nap and wake up before 3AM) to place the order on the web or on the Apple Store app, then head over to the mall around 5-6AM where people will likely be lining up before the Apple store opens to try out the Watch and place their preorders.

Will store preorders arrive on the 24th in the store for local pickup? Can online and Apple Store app preorders arrive on the 24th in the store, or are they only shipping to the house?

Given the rumored constraints, do you think online and Apple Store app preorders done at 3AM could cause the walk-in store preorders at 9AM to be backordered?

Issue is that OP won't have the funds until April 15th, pre-orders begin on April 10 and by the 15th OP is not sure if it will be to late to guarantee a watch by the 24th.

True, at least up here generally you still have a month to pay off your CC once the charges go on the card so the OP should be good using that method of payment

This part has not been confirmed yet, Apple's Press Release phrases it like you will be able to, but it hasn't been confirmed.

On April 24, Apple Watch will be available online or by reservation in Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers in China and Japan. Customers who purchase online or in-store from Apple will be offered Personal Setup to customize and pair Apple Watch with their iPhone.

can't you just find someone to do this for you? if they wont be charged until the product ships, and you will have the money by then..you can give them the cash before they get charged and nobody loses.

The Apple Watch becomes available on April 24, Pre-Orders on April 10. The Apple Watch is the first Apple product that will allow the public access to the product on pre-order day. My Suggestion is to pre-order not on April 10, but before the 24th launch date. Unlike an iPhone, Mac, or iPad this product needs at least more then an hour of in store playing/testing. Try to put the watch on (Right hand/Left hand) and see whether the 38mm is right or the 41mm. Look at the watch bands/color (Plastic (Apple Watch Sport) leather (Apple Watch)). The main function that should take up the most of the play-through is the software. Transitioning into apps, between apps, customizing the watch faces. This is a product that will be on your wrist daily and have a life span longer then a typical smartphone 2 year contract plan. (What I mean is that, this is not a product that should be thrown away for a newer generation every year. The Apple Watch should (In my opinion) last a user 4-5 years or more.))

IMO, it is extremely unlikely if you pre-order a week after pre-orders start that you will get it on day one. Everyone is expecting supplies to be very constrained. I'm expecting everyone that does not get their pre-order in the first few minutes to an hour NOT to get it on day one.

That's basically what I will do if in store pick up isn't available. I'll probably just look to book an early appointment though rather than queuing up to preorder at the store. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up in store with whichever way is successful.

PreOrder or buy it in stores??

So I guess I'll do both, online pre-order and queue up in front of the store. And, if by the time I'm trying out the Apple Watch in the store and the pre-orders are not backordered, I will opt to cancel the online pre-order and pre-order in the store, assuming the latter guarantees in-store pickup.

I think demand will be higher than expected. I'd preorder it. It also depends on which model you get.

Yea, I should have been more clear. I plan on preordering (3AM I assume EST), I'll know right away if in store pick up is available or if I have to have it delivered. Either way I'm placing the preorder. However, if delivery is the only method then I will book an early appt on the 10th to see the watch and attempt to reserve one. I'll only cancel my original preorder if I can't pick up the reserved watch on the 24th.

That depends on the individual. What you say doesn't apply to me. Sure I will try and make a reservation for in store to try the watch out and check the different models and bands. Having said I fully intend to get one and I already know I want the 42mm, which bands I want initially and I'm pretty much set on although not 100% on the stainless steel.

Never the less I will be preordering the 42mm Stainless Steel with the black sport band and either get the leather loop or Milanese loop as a secondary band. If by the off chance I find a different combo I like more in store and can reserve it I will just cancel the online preorder.

Oh, I was just answering the OP.

I would like to try on before I buy, I'm hoping that I can reserve at the Apple Store for the 25th because I can't make the 10th or release date of the 24th because I'm busy with univeristy and work, so I'm hoping I can reserve an Apple Watch SS with blue leather loop and then go on the 25th try it on and then buy it there and then.
