I preordered the IPad Mini 5 on March 18 (space gray 64 gb) on Apples’s website, still stuck on “order received”! What gives?!!
Just received this from Apple:
“Your order cannot be entered into our order system because the custom store from which you ordered has been deactivated.”
what are they talking about!? I’ve ordered many, many times on Apples website and never had this problem.
Just had an email saying mine is delivering tomorrow
Ordered 4 minutes after site went up.
Got 28th-2nd delivery. Mine changed to preparing yesterday, been sat there for 18 hours now. I must say, this launch has been a complete joke and disappointment.
Meanwhile can just walk into Best Buy and pick one up since Tuesday. No idea what Apple is doing. Feels like the iPhone X all over again. Surplus stock in the US and nothing in Europe.
I’ll just put it down to Apple believing it’s own lies and completely underestimating the demand for a new mini to make me feel better.
For example, I ordered the morning of the announcement, got a delivery date of March 29-April 2, and my Mini 5 arrived on March 27th, 2 days early. Lucky for me too, since my Best Buy has zero Mini 5s in stock, much less a 256 SG Cellular Mini 5.
Remember, it’s just another consumer electronic device.....nothing really to get upset about.
The Space Gray 256GB Wifi+Cellular must be the lottery winner, since I ordered that the first day and received mine quite early as well.
The Mini 5 really has highlighted the "negative vocal minority" MR situation for me... it seems a lot of people ordered it by now and I haven't seen m/any of the recipients complain about "THOSE BEZELS" or "OFF CENTER HOME BUTTON" with the gusto seen soon after announcement. It seems those forum posters probably have moved on today to other things like "OMG CAN'T UPGRADE MY EXISTING IMAC PRO TO 256GB, IM NVR BUYING AN APPLE PRODUCT AGAIN".
It’s a fairly narcissistic view to call the launch a “complete joke”, or that Apple is somehow lying to you. As usual, there will always be some outliers in any new product launch, and the fact that you and the others in this thread had a bad experience is not indicative of the total experience for the rest of the world.

Never said Apple were lying to me. I said they are most likely still in the view that no one wants a new mini and they should instead buy the big phone that has the same screen size (which is not true).
I also mentioned explicitly how much better stock was in the US compared to Europe - I was not talking about ‘the rest of the world’.
And I stand by my complete joke comment - go read about people asking stores when they might be expecting stock in. No one seemed to know. I’d say that was very poorly managed. If they had just said the release date was 29th March, it would be a whole different story, instead you have stores not knowing anything, stores randomly already selling it and online orders all over the place.
This is not what I would expect from a product launch by Apple - as I said, disappointed. You’re right, it’s nothing to get upset about but this is a place to discuss it so that’s my view on the launch.
So you think Apple will be rolling out millions of a new product that they believe “no one wants”?? That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve read in my 10 years here, and that’s really saying something.
And now you’re the spokesman for the “Europe” Mini 5 product launch?? Tell me..... how many Europeans got their Mini 5s already, and how many didn’t? just wondering what you’re basing your sweeping generalization that there’s “nothing in Europe.”
Finally, why are you having problems wrapping your head around the fact that some store employees don’t know when they are getting stock in, or that Best Buy and Apple Store employees don’t know everything? I’m guessing you are relatively new to retail distribution of popular consumer electronic devices. Sorry, but this is not new and not unique to Apple or Best Buy. It appears in this case that Apple did not give a specific release date, but allowed stores to begin selling whenever stock arrived. So what? Even if Apple gave a specific date for the Mini to be released is no guarantee as to stock or availability, or whether 3rd-party retailers with their minimum wage employees know and/or adhere to that specific release date.
I haven’t ordered my new Mini yet as i’m hoping to pick one up in store, but I do have one in my basket on the Apple Store. This morning the online delivery date was 9th-12th April, this afternoon is says 5th-9th April. Hopefully this means the iPads are moving now.
I think that lots of people pre-order and then cancel when they find out they can pick one up earlier in stores, and those cancelations can free up some extra online inventory.
Ordered 18th and had email this evening to say delivery tomorrow. Silver 64GB WiFi. Scotland.
