I just preordered two iPhone 5's with Verizon and will be porting my existing AT&T iPhone accounts over. During the preorder process I provided Verizon with my AT&T numbers and account details.

Question: I assume that when the phones come on the 21st I will still need to do something to set the port in motion? The reason I ask is my wife will get the phones and I am out of town (WITH MY AT&T IPHONE!) until the 22nd so I don't want to lose service early. I assume if they sit fat dumb and happy in the box I won't lose my existing service with AT&T until somehow I activate the Verizon phones correct?

Thanks.

Correct

Or you could play it cautious like I did (ATT to Verizon swap) and just get a new number. Once you are ready to set up the new phone, just call for the number port and apparently often it takes 5-15 minutes to pull the number.

Low risk and I get to try both phones in my usual areas for a few days first (can forward my calls)
