prepaid attempt problems

    hi there,

    so i tried to activate my iphone tonight using the 9's for the the emil that i had to call. i never got the prepaid option. i told them i dont have a social and that i want a pre paid. they told me i could go to an apple store and tell them to cancel my post paid account and set me up with a pre paid account. i did make it clear that apple store doesnt do activation. they said yes, that is true. they said once apple does this, it will be sent of to att to complete the pre paid activation.

    question. has anyone gotten the same story?

    OK, I have the definitive way now to get a pre paid account. It took me 5 calls and 5 hours of my time, but that will just save the time for everyone else. I had to get a new sim card from a store because they screwed up my first one, don't even want to go into all the details as it will take me an hour to write.

    First, everything you read about using all a random number, 999's or 000's as your social doesn't work anymore. The problem is that you don't get a credit score and consequently do not get declined for credit. The system things you made a mistake and wants you to fix the info. All that happens now is you get an email telling you to call AT&T because you are missing or have incorrect info. However, that's a good thing. It's really simple once you get this email to get to the "pre paid heaven" as you put it.

    All you need to do is call up, speak to a CSR. Tell them that your social is fine, because you are trying to get pre paid and not to worry about changing it. Ask them very nicely to change the status of credit approval manually to declined. Once they do this, if you iphone is still plugged into iTunes you will instantly be given the pick a plan option. If you aren't just plug it in or check your email because they will send you the link directly as well.

    If the CSR will not change the status, insist on speak to a manager and politely ask them to do it. Explain to them that you want pre paid and the only way to get access to it is by having your credit check decline.

    Do not let them manually set you up with a prepaid account. It will not work and just give you same the headaches that I had. Enjoy!

    I used all 9's as my SSN last night (July 7) and was able to get on the prepaid plan with no problems whatsoever. So it looks like it works for some but not for others...

    I signed up last night around 8 or so and used the all nines for my social. It worked great, I am typing this right now from my Iphone.

    It does not work for me either. I always get the post paid options.

    Pre-Paid options basically never work if you really do have 'good credit'.

    I tried putting down 9's for my SSN: no dice

    I tried to call ATT's CSR and beg them for prepaid: no dice

    I even went to their store, and told them I wanted prepaid: no dice ($500 deposit was my only option)

    I even called back to ATT, told them I was an Int'l Student with no SSN so that's why I can't get post-paid accounts - and she told me that I could! No dice.

    What did I do in the end? I signed up for a temp account at an ATT store, activated my iPhone, and then changed my account from iPhone to a TREO data plan and then canceled the TREO plan 1 hour later. :)

    iPhone was fully activated and I didn't have AssT&T :)
