I once saw mastercard pre paid cards in a shoppers drug mart. They were sort of like a gift card idea. Do you think that that would work?

iTunes accepts MasterCard so if they act like any other MC card, probably. But, I think there's a fee involved with the pre-paid cards. Plus first, you should tell Apple to add iTunes Card support in Canada before doing anything else.

Well I got my response from Apple...

Hi ****,

Thank you for contacting Apple about the App Store. We're so glad you're interested in this new offering. My name is Natalie and I am delighted to assist you today!

Due to tax laws and commerce restrictions for software in Canada, customers residing in Canada may only purchase games and applications using a credit card.

I'm sorry ****, but you will not be able to purchase games or applications with store credit or an iTunes Gift Card in Canada.

If you have any other concerns surrounding this, feel free to include them in your reply and I'll do my best to assist you.

Again, I apologize for this disappointment ****, I hope that you continue to enjoy the iTunes Store.

It has been my pleasure assisting you. If I can further assist you in any way, you can always reach me for support Sunday-Thursday from 6 a.m to 3 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated ****. You may be receiving an Apple Customer Service survey email in 3 to 5 days. Please feel free to leave comments of your experience with my assistance. Take care and have an excellent day!

Yours Faithfully,

Natalie

Don't bother calling. I already did it twice... got the same guy. :p

He says I'm sorta in a lucky position, because an Apple Technical Support Member ONLINE told me it's purchasable, and I have the email as proof, so I may be able to get the update free or get a refund, whichever.

It's because of some laws, though.

this is outrageous. if apple is saying we can't use itunes cards because of laws, then couldn't we not use them for music or anything else either? buying a song is no different then buying an update. they get our money and the file goes to our computer. voila. i'm thinking apple is slowly taking the itunes cards out of canada and eventually credit cards will be the only way to purchase from the store. nobody will take that crap and and the millions of people that buy using the gift cards will no longer be able to and like me, will refuse to use a credit card either because we don't trust using it over the internet or because we just don't have one. they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Well it's slightly different because and app is software, or so they say that it makes it different. If they take away gift cards they should at least let us use paypal, for those of us who choose not to have credit cards.

To make matters worst, or maybe to explain why, the Upgrade and the Apps get charged tax, unlike other Store purchases. The 9.99$ upgrade cost me 11.29$. iTunes Cards, on the other hand, do or don't get charged taxes, depending on the store you buy them from.
