It's all for show. We know it is because for $85 you can get out of a huge part of the screening. And to advertise it they randomly let people into the pre-check line when the regular lines get too long.

I happen to have global entry ($100 for 5 yrs) and the only things I get are a shorter line (usually), I don't have to take off my shoes/light jacket, I don't have to take out my laptop and I don't have to take out my 3oz liquids. I hardly see that as a huge reduction in security. It's just more convenient for me. Everything, including me, still goes through all the scanners and I still get pulled to the side now and then for a hand check. That's not a "huge" difference. Oh, and I can use the customs kiosk to get through customs a little faster because my fingerprints are on file. But I still had to do a hand check when I brought tulips home from Amsterdam and when the whole ebola thing made them ask everyone if they had been to Africa.

We have a lock for encrypted devices. It's a code held in the minds of the owners... it has come out recently that the NSA does not support the FBI in this matter and doesn't believe Apple should weaken encryption, they know what's out there, they know what other governments are doing and they don't want people walking around with insecure devices.

Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dream comes true

- Aerosmith - kinda like Aristotle, except WAY cooler, man.

I hate division within the ranks of our federal government. It makes me VERY angry. This division that does not exist at all, but is played out by the corporate owned media to exist to keep us working our day jobs.

I need a Shrubbery. Ni! Ni! Ni!

It's unfathomable just unbelievably stupid and moronic the dumb liberals are. No wonder Trump is winning.

Maher has a bug up his butt about Islam in general, he brings it up every show. He's pretty close to Trump crazy on this one. And he's also anti-GMOs and food alarmist in general. I find it ironic that the guy who rails against the irrational fanaticism of religion and anti-vaxxers has bought into the fanaticism about those things.

Especially since you can always change the combination once you buy the safe.

But if you watch any movie about safe cracking they show the "expert" who knows exactly how to crack into each individual type/maker of safe because each one has a particular vulnerability. Apple is trying to not create that vulnerability or even to make it known that a vulnerability exists. Ever notice how much easier it is for people to copy something AFTER someone else made it and made people aware that is it possible?

SERIOUSLY!?! When you wake up, does your mind make a "clicking" sound or just go "ka-ching"?

I think we need to start separating people and have them hate each other on some weird arbitrary **** I just made up. That would be fun! Whites/Black, Dem/Rep, Haves/Havenots, 99%/1% - so SILLY!!!

Like with your other posts, I have no idea what point your rambling is trying to make.

THANK YOU! This is where we all should gain such incredible knowledge! Thank you, laurim!

I shall cast you into a movie where you shall break Apple's "unbreakable" code - and we shall reign forever supreme in stuff where movies are cool and explain things to us because we're too lazy to read the book or go to a play - but yet we worship those who reign supreme in that field forever and ever more, forever and ever.

AMEN! Again, do not repeat that - it's your security link!

Oh, also those who are pretty and can be the face of Pop Tunes created for the masses. I like them also. They are AWESOME! They Think Different. Never a deformed one in the bunch. Deformed people have ZERO talent. Jump on that bandwagon - 'cuz you ALREADY ARE!!! Awesome, no?

I sadly bought into that campaign, thinking "Hey, I think different" - imagining the mountains of gold it would bring me. But here I am, on a sad little forum for a sad little website that, as far as I know, was never even a MAGAZINE - where true truth was laid to bring us to this horribly sad point in the honor of journalistic integrity... which was only ever imagined and never ever existed ever.

Which is quite on show again regarding Apple v. FBI. I believe EVERY word I hear. It makes me happy - those words I hear.

But it continues to make me sad that something that costs under $5k doesn't ACTUALLY change my life. Those bastards! ;)

Prior to Apple, I joined cults for fun.

You really need to share the weed you are enjoying with the rest of us so we can decipher your posts.
Feel free to dispute that safe crackers know the individual vulnerabilities of different kinds of safes. Where I get factual information is immaterial if it is still factual information.

Wow, you have FACTS! Sadly, any fact you think is a fact (Jack) is based on a theory, which can be disproven at any point in time.
But, regarding THIS particular BS of a story - if Apple has a backdoor to your encryption, so does the government.
If they're SUING Apple for the "key" to the backdoor - then I'm guessing even those who know anything about encryption would agree that the jig is probably up, right there.
Other than that, your theory about the safe and the safe cracker would be legit, other than that I have no weed to support your incredible claims to the extraordinary?

My GRAND "post", which would only receive negative responses, would be - "All Corporations, be they Corporations or supposedly Sovereign Governments, are inherently EVIL because they rely on the most duplicitous sadness of human nature... to be accepted and rewarded for that acceptance." - Samuel L. Jackson for Capital One, 2014.

I need more facts and less theories - which would give me less facts and more theories. My mind is imploding - but that's okay, because it was already VERY VERY VERY small :)
[doublepost=1457820972][/doublepost]I have to go now. Life awaits. But this has been fun. Enjoy your life on the void that is the Internet as if it were the grand entertainment provided for the citizens of Rome. Just glad I haven't left any children to bear it out.
"The end comes for those who wait." - Clinton v. Trump, 2016.

Sorry, I hadn’t noticed there was the link (somehow I had right over it). I just quick read through it. Were you being sarcastic in saying ‘horrifying,’ or being serious?

Someone had posted something about the government using drones over US land. So I read the link that I guess you can happen upon somehow from the story. (I'm not sure why s/he posted it). So I took a look at that article to see what the US was doing over its own soil with drones. It was something like 20 uses in 10 years, mostly for surveying damage, helping rescue teams, etc... I dunno, maybe part of it is nefarious too, but it wasn't in the article referenced.

So I was being a sarcastic jerk when I made my comment. :) It's obviously not horrifying.

What kills me is this. The US and other countries are no angels. Each sovereign does what it thinks protects its interests. Sometimes they do good. Sometimes they do bad. But to just go out and say that the US is spying on its citizens with drones and then link to an article that states the drones are used for search and rescue, it kills me. It takes what can otherwise be a good discussion and just kills it. It allows for easy dismissal of the issue.

Do I think Obama is perfect? No. Has he done a lot of good? Yes. Has he made mistakes? Of course.

If you use your brain you could realize that actually... they are not! Sorry but I have to be that blunt to see if you can get it.

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last few years, yeah, they are a threat and will remain a threat for a long time unfortunately.

Look at the reverse side of the coin, an absolutist view on DRM means there's no fair use.

Don't drink and post. Just don't. Apologies to everyone.

I'm sure you have realized it by now but it shouldn't go without saying that there are a lot of stupid folks on planet earth. A lot! The internet allows them to share that stupidity on a large scale. #Facts

Never underestimate the stupidity of others.

The President speaks "lawyer" and "politician" here - i.e., say things they do not believe in for the sake of the situation - to win a case or vote.

Anyway, did any of us expect the President of the USA to say otherwise?

How come whistleblowers are hunted endlessly with no expense spared and the harshest sentences for showing us what our governments are up to, yet those governments think it's ok to take OUR information at will? Democracy or Dictatorship? The hypocrisy is amazing.

'If the government can't get in, then everyone is walking around with a Swiss bank account'

That is truly irresponsible. Why can't I have a secure device that protects my information and not be accessible to anyone else on the planet? If we have to accept that the government need access to absolutely everything upon request then we have no privacy whatsoever. You either have privacy or you don't.

1984 is fast approaching.

Oh it's here already! They made you carry around big brother willingly. That's what selfie cameras were made for. They can look at you look at what's in front of you and the mic to listen to you. It's a scary thought. But I know they're most likely doing it. Patriot Act. They won't stop thinking of ways to control, manipulate you through media, news, TV, music and film and print. Don't get me started on the food and healthcare tied to western medicine big pharma. They wanna kill us and make money doing it.

...or we could just brush the issue under the carpet and accept that data encryption is real and anyone who wants to use it can. There is no and, ifs or buts. A criminal will always find a way to use apps or devices that prevent self incrimination and that's not going to change with a backdoor, that can just be abused. There is no work around.
[doublepost=1457825706][/doublepost]
you can have the world's safest safe in your house. as soon as a judge says..open it, you open it.
same thing.
Unless you're dead, then they'll make you open it with your cold dead hands. It's not the same it's the opposite, you have the right not to incriminate yourself especially if they are non related crimes. The threats are low to zero that require access. Data sure can secure a conviction but it's lazy police work to assume it's even on the phone in the first place and even lazier to assume getting access will prevent anything from happening. The case of 'if we had access to phone he wouldn't have killed' is ******** and wrong.

James Comey was a Republican, served in the Bush administration, when he became the nominee for the FBI, and it's obvious that Obama was partially reaching for a consensus on this question, as Comey has been making more and more insinuations that this total encryption of phones is a problem for the FBI, and the lawsuit they launched is part of that. Now, I would love to say that a phone is just like the things you have in your house, which, with probable cause, can be searched when you get a warrant from a judge. But just like the Clipper chip, it seems that is technologically infeasible. When one of the security experts says, "Oh, wait, this would work," I might agree. However, it's been put forward with ample period and means of talking back, the first judicial decision that came down was negative, the hearings were surprisingly pro-"Apple," pro-privacy, and the decision, if it takes place at all, will go to the Supreme Court. So the argument that Obama is a dictator is pretty laughable. My money is on him being wrong on this, though he's been very right about a lot of stuff.

Oh, and for those Trump supporters here: the closest analog to the "Trump movement" is the KKK in the 1920s. They got very big in the '20s. It's wasn't just for black people in the South anymore; they wanted to build "a wall" against Southern Europe, and Russia, and anyplace they identified as "non-Christian". Big march one time down Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington DC.

Yup. And now we have another reason to rip this nation apart. Civil Unrest will not be too long. :apple:

Is that what he told his slaves?

Come on.That's BS. You can't equate the time periods. You can however make a growing case for Civil Unrest. The divide is almost to the point of no return. :apple:
