The new way is more convenient in that you’re just holding the button down but the old was was much faster.

I’m just thankful it isn’t a dual action hold down and spin. I’d just leave my watch water locked for eternity in that case.
You can create a shortcut to turn off the water lock on the phone. I've been using that, since I always had trouble with turning the crown to turn off water lock. I never managed to turn it far enough on the first try.

I do kick boxing, and the hand wraps can push on the crown. I never had any problems with it before iOS 9, I wish Apple would just give me the option on how I want to unlock it,
You might want to consider switching the orientation — that would let you rotate the watch so the crown is in the other/elbow side. Only takes a day or so to get used to.

Just an FYI, I figured this out while trying to apple pay.

Hold the Crown in to trigger the water ejection. As soon as the "Keep holding..." disappears, let go of the crown and press it in a second time (just a quick press and release). This will significantly decrease the "unlock" time.

It's even faster than rotate the crown to unlock used to be. Just note, it stops the water ejection. I do this now when I am sleeping, because the ejection sound is enough to wake up my child.

Thanks for the advice, I switch the orientation a few years ago, when I accidentally called 911 10 times when I was on my bike.

I like the press to hold for ejecting water, but I sorely miss the twist to unlock for sleep mode.

Sometimes I accidentally press the crown in my sleep and unlock it anyway…
