Press spacebar to preview movie clip - Sound question

When I click the spacebar to watch some movies/tv shows on my hard drive, some files are silent and some have sound.

however, when i open the file in VLC, the sound works fine. is there a fix for this? so i can get sound working on all files when i hit spacebar to preview (then make full screen)

what kind of files are the ones without audio? the quicklook function uses quicktime to play movies, so if quicktime can't play it properly, neither can quicklook.

Ahh, ok. that makes sense.

the movies are .avi

is there a fix for that?

Try downloading the Perian codec pack.

i downloaded and installed perian. it didnt fix the sound issues in quicklook. and then when i tried to open with quicktime, still no sound, even after installing perian.

the sound works with vlc though. weird.

any other ideas? is there something special i need to do once i install perian?

Nope, Perian should work without any sort of configuration. I've never had audio problems with Perian, but it's possible that the video is just using an audio codec that Perian/QuickTime can't read.

Try Flip4mac WMV. I have it and Perian installed, and between them, Quicktime can play almost as many files as VLC.

i have Flip4Mac -- the video plays fine, but im just getting no audio for some movies. however, they work fine in VLC... i'm stumped 😕
