*Edit... I’m frustrated and am curious what everyone else might think or do. I love this iPad except the slight aberration on the back I found (only seen at an angle, but in any light.) But I’m wondering it this is normal and if my severe OCD is the main issue here, (actually diagnosed with it and take medications, unfortunately imperfect tech products are my biggest personal hurdle.)
Anyone think returning this and purchasing in a month or two might be different, or just exchanging at another store would be best? I just don’t know here.

I luckily had no bend. And the other possible issue I found by accident, is that the lamination process might be flawed with this generation. I tilted my iPad and noticed warped rainbow color bubble type things in the center and center left and right of the display.
I removed the screen protector thinking for sure that was the problem, but unfortunately, it’s the iPad’s glass itself. It was still flat enough to fit my screen protector without leaving any kind of air bubbles and after removing it, the display registered my touch with no issue.
So obviously I thought I got a rare fluke and took it back to Apple for replacement. I Opened my new iPad and luckily there was no bend, but the replacement had the same odd issue with the lamination or display glass, but more annoyingly... I saw the back of the iPad is warped or distorted on the back. *no special light, no obsessive search for flaws, it was easily noticeable with holding up in any light. The strangest thing is I can’t feel any bump or indentation at all.
The same of thing a couple other people had...

I think this iPad looks great and has great internals, but the build quality, aluminum, and overall QC are suffering a bit this time around.
I may return this iPad on Monday and wait until March or something, (as I did that last year with the 10.5 and it was pretty much perfect with no issues.) The manufacturing process must have gotten better after waiting a bit longer to purchase it. (Anyone think that’s a good or pointless idea this time around?)

This really sucks as I’m unsure if any improvement will be done on Apple’s end and if I should wait or accept that this is going to be normal on every iPad Pro I get.
I’m not sure what to think of the glass display, is it distortion from being glass or is the lamination bad?

*The 2nd gen iPPs did not have such stupid aluminum or screen issues, what happened Apple, did becoming the first 1 trillion dollar company make you forget how to make quality products? I’ll take an iPad that is 20mm if it means no problems. :/
But what Jony wants Jony gets “a piece of glass so thin, you want even care that the iPad is distorted and produced with unapologetically faulty materials.”

Send it back! Even if it doesn’t bother you the retail value drops significantly if you want to sell it some day....

This whole warp/bent issue and the reaction from them is a shame for Apple! I love my 2gen iPP 12.9 to death and wanted to upgrade, but this new iPad with even higher prices is not worth it. Deeply disappointed....That and other things might be the reason for the sharp decline in stock value....(which also frustrates me a lot as a long term Apple stock holder....)

Question is... should I swap it out now or wait a couple months in hopes Apple secretly addresses the issue? :/

If it was me, I’d swap and return for a refund now. Wait for the next gen.
I included pictures of my new replacement iPad below...
this has been destroying me for the past 3-days of whether this slight issue was really an issues, (*the photos below really don’t show it has any issue TBH.)
So deep down I know what to do, but 50% of my doofus (real diagnosed 30+ year OCD rationalizing) is really convincing me to think taking this back would be best, *I mean, I must have simply been unlucky and gotten the one in a million not quite perfect iPad right?... but the more logical me (the other 50%) said: “you have already done about 6 returns on these devices for various issues, and not one has been perfect, so what if the next one has the same dilemma or is worse? You know you will find something wrong because your expectations are too high and you’re looking for flaws.”

So i spoke with my older brother who suffers from OCD 1000x worse than me but majored in Zpsychology and manages his own OCD super well. He really helped me realize there’s no such thing as absolute perfection and looking for it is a waste of a life, **there is: almost perfect, incredible, amazing, etc, etc though, ;)

SO....

I’m going to keep this iPad as the pros outweigh the cons; the speakers are better on this one, the screen uniformity is better, no light-bleed, all hardware/software is functioning seamlessly, so far everything is kind of better than any of the past “defective” iPads I returned... except the distortion in the aluminum on back (but can only be seen at a specific angle with 1600 lumen white lights.) The other odd thing is... I’m not at all able to actually feel any bump or surface distortion... it’s not indented or bulging at all, which makes me wonder if it’s just a micron off or truly a visual distortion. I even took a picture though and it’s not really noticeable there either. So yeah, I got too worked up for this.

And what is perfect really?
No iPad, iPhone, Mac, or any Apple product I have owned hasn’t had some flaw, defect, or imperfection.

Sorry about the long post, but just wanted to share that despite some imperfections, this device looks amazing, runs great, and is not bent or cracked... exchanging it again will just waste time, money, and cause more anxiety. It would stay an endless loop or i get an actually defective iPad.

*stepping off soap-box. ;)

Thank you for all the help though gentlemen or ladies, it is much appreciated. :)

Only you know what impact your OCD has on your perception of the flaws on your device. Have you shown the iPad to someone you trust who doesn't suffer from OCD and get their opinion on it?

If they say, "go on, get outta here, the device is fine!" then you know. If they say, "dude, that thing is whack, take it back!" you also know.

Sometimes we can over-compensate for the medical issues we experience.

Regarding the apparently lower quality of this generation iPad Pros...
When I buy a product, I expect a level of quality proportional to the price I pay for it. My 2015 12.9 iPad Pro was perfect. Absolutely nothing to complain about regarding the physical fit and finish. I'm not talking about the design aesthetics like not having a camera bump vs. having one.

My 2018 iPad was perfect too. No backlight bleeding. Evenly distributed backlighting. Fit and finish is of the same quality as that 2015 12.9 iPad Pro.

With these 2018 iPad Pros, there's a lot of gaslighting going on. Primarily by Apple fans who are making excuses for the reduced level of quality. They are working to instill fear, uncertainty, and doubt about what people are actually observing. I have no idea why they would be doing this... especially to the point of insulting individual customers and taking the side of a faceless corporation that has a track record for sweeping problems under the rug.

I don't care what level of tech is in these latest iPad Pros, given the prices of these devices, the physical build quality should be top-notch... equal to all of the previous iPads (Pro and non). It doesn't matter what Apple says their manufacturing specs are... it matters what ends up in the customers' hands.

Does this mean that every unit suffers from defects? No.

When I buy an iOS device, I'll wait a minimum of 3-6 months after it is released. I examined the specs and compared them to the price Apple is charging and what additional functions are possible with this new generation and concluded that there was not enough there to justify the purchase at full MSRP, but would consider a deep discount on one. But in the subsequent months that followed and these issues came to light, it tipped to scales to me passing on buying one. That is me and not a conclusion that will be universally drawn.

Apple is supposed to be "Top Of The Line" the Rolls Royce of computers. RR's don't come from the factory bent.

Send that POS back, and wait... This is an awful move by Apple.

Maybe vertu can be assosciate with RR
RR are build 80% manual and like any other car ,tested after every process
Why? Because they dont sell in millions
So to our OP,this one has no bend or other issues on thr back?

So Rolls Royce don't have to give warranty on their cars, because every single piece of them is absolutely flawless?

I had the same rainbow problem on every iPad Pro I had no matter if I bought it in the beginning or after couple of months. Also I experienced (and still do) problems with unresponsive touch on iPad Pro 2017 (discussed on these forums as well). I suspect that Apple started to have manufacturing problems long ago. And still does.

Return. Too much effort and thought is being put into this to become this much of an issue.

Thanks, I’ll ask a person who has no OCD, but in the end looking at my photos I think I blew up the issue, if I take it back what are the chances the 7-8th will be perfect, or if I were to wait until June... will Apple really do something different, (I see them offering replacements for bent iPads but the entire chassis aluminum being changed is doubtful. I have my 9.7” pro that is curved from normal use.
So besides any

I really doubt that Apple will make any production changes within this generation of iPad. I don't "know" that, but I don't think there are any earlier cases that suggest that Apple would make production changes of that magnitude mid-stream.

Thank you for all the help though gentlemen or ladies, it is much appreciated. :)

The eye is actually super-sensitive. It's easily possible that the deflection you can see on the back is only measurable with lab-grade measuring instruments. Unlike my LTE 11", which you could almost measure with a ruler (way over .5mm).

Kai, if it bothers you, I think Kazmac is right.

FWIW, I had returned my seriously bent 11" LTE on Saturday, decided I actually really didn't want to go back to an earlier generation and bought an 11" wifi today. It is not only straight on all four edges, but I just checked the back as you did, and the back of mine is nearly plane-flat.

It would be interesting to hear from others. I think you're cursed, man. :(
