I was reading the stories about users forgetting their passcodes, while others who had not set a passcode had inadvertantly passcode locked their iphones.

I have an iphone 3gs on 4.3.3 that is a jailbroken & unlocked one that I am currently using with t-mobile pay as you go.

I dont have a passcode set now as if I forgot it, it seems I would have to do a restore & lose my jailbrake & my t-mobile service.

But I also do not want to have it suddenly require a password that I cant crack.

Is there a way to prevent my phone from setting it's self with a passcode? the only time I want it to require a passcode is if I set one for it.

You can't "inadvertently" set a passcode. You have to hit Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Turn Passcode On (that's FOUR clicks), then hit the same four digit code twice. It's basically impossible to set by accident.

Just don't get drunk and decide that messing with your phone is a good idea, or leave it in the hands of a drunk/malicious friend or a child. That's where the horror stories come from. :D
