Hey everyone,

I have a late 2011 MBP running Sierra and I was wondering if there is any way to prevent wifi from disconnecting when I put my display to sleep (not the whole mac)? I'd like to be able to have this option whether I'm plugged into the wall or on battery. Anyone now if it's possible?

If the display goes to sleep but the computer stays awake, the wifi will stay connected. If you're seeing the wifi disconnect, it's very likely that the computer itself is sleeping. You can extend the computer's sleep time in the Energy Saver system preference.

I do not have my MBP set to sleep. The display is set to sleep after 15 minutes. I also put the display to sleep by long-pressing the power button. I know the wifi disconnects cuz when I wake it I see the wifi icon trying to connect.

Um, that long press of the power button does a forced, unclean power-off. It doesn't put anything to sleep and should only be done if the Mac has locked up or is otherwise not responding to normal shutdown procedures.

A short press of the power button will trigger a sleep just like going to :apple: -> Sleep.

Sorry, I do the short press. Just figured out the keyboard shortcut for putting the display to sleep so I'll stick with that. Thanks for the replies.

I have the same issue. If I put it to sleep with the keyboard shortcut and leave the lid open there isn't an issue but if I put it to sleep with the shortcut and close the lid the wifi disconnects.
