Well... I have a rather silly solution. It's what I've done for about a year:

You know those big white plastic bags with :apple: they give you when you buy larger stuff in the :apple:Store? Well, what I did was whenever I traveled, I just put the laptop inside that bag and put it in the container like that. They never asked me to remove it (and I've been through many airports with this, even in Europe).

However, now I have a messenger back which came with a sleeve and when I put the notebook IN the sleeve in the container, they ask me to remove it.

So, plastic bag yes, protective sleeve - not.

Hmm interesting idea. I still have my big apple bag. Though it might be a hassle carrying that big bag in the airport. It won't fit well into my backpack haha. The invisible shield is too expensive for mee for the full body coverage.

The invisible shield almost extends to the plastic of the edges. You should try googling for pictures.

I travel 98% of the time and noticed my MBP getting scratches. I tried using the protection but it made my MBP look dumpy. So I figure the important stuff is in the inside.

I never thought about trying the computer on the cloth trick but TSA is already a PITA.

Invisible shield or similar protection is only answer. I've got a few "battle scars" on my alu-PB, MBP & MBA from the bins and associated processes. Nothing you can really do about it. They get testy if you don't follow the rules to the letter.

I really like the MBP "naked" when I'm using it so I wouldn't put anything on the outside; however I've found the waterfield sleeve cases to be fantastic travel companions http://sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sleevecases.htm

I have a backpack that I slide the sleeve in and then just slip the laptop in and out of that in everyday use.

At the airport I put a bin down, slide the whole sleeve case rig (vertical case with flap and a strap) out of the backpack, send the backpack through, slide the MBP from the sleeve and toss the sleeve in the bin. Now I have a little bed for my MBP and my iPhone, rock on.

Good luck

I got the best idea!

Putting it on top of a sleeve sounds good but it will NOT cover the sides so your MBP might slip and hit the side of the tray and still get scratched

The best way is to put a large shopping plastic bag under your MBP which would also cover all sides and then prevent any scratches whatsoever :D

I have been reading alot about the invisible shield, although i haven't been able to find anywhere in Australia that sells it :(

I still think it sounds rather expensive for $55 US as i will also have to buy a sleeve.

Is it really worth it?
