Title says it all really: I upgraded from Ventura to the latest version of Sonoma and every time I open Preview it hangs and becomes unresponsive. This never once happened under Ventura. Now I cannot look at any photographs on my Mac (Macbook Air 2022; 24 gigs of ram).

I assume Apple won't fix Sonoma anymore. Is there another photo viewing software that people use to look at jpgs?

Thank you.

I assume restarting does not fix the issue?
Sadly nope, the problem remains. Preview can open up a bunch of photos, I can scroll through a few of them, and then it locks up, never to unlock.

How many photos are you trying to load in a single Preview window? What is the type of image file (heic, jpeg, etc)? How large are the image files in general?

I know you probably prefer to open all the photos in a single Preview window, but try menu Preview > Settings > click Images > select Open each file in its own window. Curious if you will discover which photo may be causing Preview to crash.

Roughly 30-40 jpgs. I used to open up to 200 jpgs in Preview without any problems at all, before I upgraded to Sonoma.

Try to create a clean new user account in System Settings > Users & Groups and work from there. Will it make a difference?

How large is your system SSD? I recently upgraded a 2018 Mac Mini with a 128 GB internal SSD from Ventura to Sonoma and the first indication that there were problems was that Preview kept locking up. Bottom line for me is that Sonoma won't run on this particular hardware setup.

There are some issues with Sonoma 14.7.1. I upgraded recently and encountered issues with opening, saving files, recent file lists in Logic Pro, Garageband & QuickTime Player plus some other things.

See the following conversations:

One of the people that posted in the least thread and who was in contact with Apple, was saying "Looks like we are getting MacOS updates next week, .." so I am waiting for that ...

By the way if you cannot wait , creating a clean new user account should also work ... but it is pain to copy all user settings ...
