So been looking at the iPhone recently. I haven't used an iPhone since i think maybe the 4s? I moved over to Samsung, had a year with HTC, used Samsung exclusively for about 4 years and now I've got the Pixel 3XL.
My wife has an iPhone Xs Max. Pretty much everyone i know has an iPhone and i just feel like it would be easier.
The main reasons why i've been thinking about switching back are:
  • when i switched, google apps were NOT a thing on iPhones. I think there may have been 1 or 2 but it was a pain to use. From what i can tell all these things are readily available on iPhones now.
  • Updates come much quicker and more frequent
  • App developers ABSOLUTELY favor iPhone over Android. The amount of times my wife gets an update with a redesign or new functionality and i have to wait over a month or more sometimes to get those updates is ridiculous.
  • The battery life is better and more consistent over a long period of time. After about 1 year, all of my android phones are typically shot on holding a charge through an entire day.
  • iMessage... all the benefits of this since i talk to my wife/family basically all day. Sending pictures, videos, don't have to worry about "when is RCS going to be available"
All that being said, the biggest thing holding me back is widgets. I absolutely LOVE having my calendar, task lists, reminders, countdowns, clocks all available on my home screen and not needing to go into an app just to see the information.
I just wanted to see if anyone else who was on Android for years that has switched to an iPhone, what has your experience been like since you moved back over? Also any iPhone users, what keeps you from going to android that you LOVE about iPhones. Maybe things that i'm not aware of that could be helpful!

everything honestly, from design to performance to how the app icons look (as a graphic designer, the unorganized app icons look android has was driving me insane).

Been using Android all my life, switched to an iPhone 11 Pro for the first time. There was a bit of a learning curve especially when it comes to how you would copy your data, like with Android phones, you just plug in your phone and BAM, it appears as a flash drive where you can easily copy/paste your data.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out syncing using the Music App or Photos app so I found this awesome app called iMazing which made it a breeze, just drag and drop the music and photos and I was set.

Now, after using the iPhone for a month, here is what I like:

1) No more staggered updates, everyone gets the latest updates, security patches, at the same time

2) I feel the app quality is better on iOS

3) 3 times better battery life, I am not talking about capacity as in mAH, I am talking about the outstanding standby time. With Android phones, even on my last Note 10 Plus, I could barely get a day or maybe a day and a half even though I am not exactly what you would consider as a heavy user but with the iPhone, I never find myself reaching below 60% by the end of the day and that includes listening to music for one and a half hour every day while doing cardio or listening to Audio Books using Audbile.

4) The camera is the best out there, sure the Note 10 Plus has a respectable camera but where the iPhone shines is when you zoom in on a photo, with Galaxy phones there's always this noise but it is much sharper on the iPhone.

5) If you have a MacBook laptop or Mac Desktop, the integration is out of this world. Like I could be viewing a site on my MacBook and if I swipe up on the iPhone, I get the the option to visit that same site I'm on my computer so I don't need to email myself any links if I need to access something on my phone. Same goes for sharing files and photos, you take a photo and it's instantly on all your devices, just like contacts, notes, etc.

When I got my MacBook and iPhone, I didn't install any apps, I wanted to experience what the Mac/iOS app are like and the Notes app has a much cleaner interface than say Google Keep which looks like a cartoonish mess IMHO.

The only Google app I use now is Google Maps

I wanted to be rid of Google as much as possible and even Samsung.

prefer Safari over alternatives. I was using Edge and even that is better on iOS than Galaxy S10+

iPhone finally has 4GB
THE iPhone 11 is comparable to S10+ in size
Better battery
Transferring from iPhone to new iPhone is much easier and better

integration. Microsoft and Samsung want to bridge mobile desktop and tablets to compete with Apple. Also Airdrop ability. Not there yet.

FACE ID!

I’m fine with iOS but with Android I feel I have to make tweaks and changes.

I’ve been using Android 10 and it’s better but not enough. I don’t like Samsung Bixby Edge or AOD features.

really tried to like Android

I had to give Samsung a long look, was my first phone 2011, and at times iOS apps, printer support, better WiFi have existed on one of the other.

could have saved a lot staying with iPhone and iPads

Both OS's are fine and do the job but what keeps me coming back to iOS and macOS is continuity and handoff....

The quality of store apps on iOS is also somewhat better..

OS updates delivered to all devices at the same time regardless of brand and the quality of iOS apps compared to their Android substitutes.

I use both... when I’m without my Android device I miss the usb c, the ability to have two different accounts for the same app (Samsung feature) and more smarter Health app. When I’m without my iPhone I miss the fluidity of the system.
Overall I think that Android is on the “Pro” side and iOS is for who wants things done without hassle.

I also use both. Next to my iPhone XS Max, I use the Huawei P30 Pro which is a fantastic device. I would almost say I prefer the Huawei, however, I am really sold to the integration of my iPhone.
My work computers are an iMac, Macbook Pro as well as an iPad, and it's so nice to have Siri make a reminder on the watch just to have it immediately on the Macbook and all other devices. Helps with my procrastination habit. Really.

What I also love on the iPhone is that the user experience is just that tiny tad nicer. The animations are JUST right, the haptic feedback is perfect, and such. That brings no real value, but just feels incredible satisfying. Also, the design itself is a lot more integrated. Surely, it all comes out of one hand.

But the Huawei (Android) has such a great camera (really, not even the i11 comes close.), the battery is amazing (it lasts for 3 days and 2 days with heavy usage). It's also very comfortable to customize the launcher to suit your needs (I HATE scrolling through 3 pages of app folders and icons just to find a certain app) and in my personal opinion, the Android settings are just so much more structured and logical. I hate searching for a certain setting on the iPhone, never knowing where it could hide (like... the camera settings are in the settings app, not the camera app...).

Also, I really don't like how Apple mixes lightning and usb-c. But that's a different story.

I wish I could have the P30 Pro's camera and battery in the iPhone, but keep iOS 13, plus customize the launcher. A dream would come true ;-)
