XR is a great size and I can see it becoming the default iphone size. Needs to lose them bezels though.

coming from an iphone 8+ plus, I find the Xr a tad too narrow, with similar SETTINGS the text just seems to be squished from left to right. It's taller, great but I like that little tiny bit of extra fuller page reading view. It also is thicker, tiny amount mind you but I can feel it. It also just overall FEELs heavier even though the difference is very minimal.

If only they could have made the Xr same overall screen width, more height (which it has) and maintained the thickness of the 8+ or thinner even it would be pretty perfect. Not really sure why they didn't/couldn't other than protect Xs share. They SAY it's a bit thicker because of the screen, but the 8+ has a similar screen technology and it's overall thinner.

In the end, I'll stick with the 8+ another year. I DO prefer/enjoy the full screen UI experience though and wonder why couldn't we get that in a software update as an option?
This is my issue with my XR too. Everything feels elongated and I’m not liking that. Guess it will just be something a I’ll have to get use to.

I went from a 6S Plus to the XR. For me, the screen isn't wide enough and the aspect ratio feels weird. I've decided to return it and ordered a XS Max instead. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with that one.
Well, holy ****. I got the XS Max yesterday evening and I'm completely blown away. While the aspect ratio is still something that I have to get used to, the size of the device itself is perfect.

Also, the display is (IMO) so much better it isn't funny. I watched a 60FPS HDR LG demo video on Youtube and the colors and sharpness are on a whole other level. I'm definitely keeping this one :)

If "only". You are buying a budget phone and wants it to be the best alternative.

No, the technology is not the same.

Again, you are buying a budget phone and want the same experience as a flagship phone.

I looked at the XR and the Max and went for the Max. The additional bezel and aluminum frame just made it look a little too „Fisher Price“ for its HIGH price. If I spent a fortune, I might as well spent it on the „best“ possible.

I LOVE it coming from an 7 Plus. When I go back to my 7 Plus now, everything seems so squeezed together haha it’s funny how fast you get used to things. For example I wish the older iPhones had „tap“ to wake too

Yeah, I actually tried to swipe up on my 6S yesterday to go home :D

One of the most surprising aspects about the Max, is that it’s actually very well balanced in the hand. It’s not too heavy in certain parts of the phone over the other, and it feels actually almost somewhat lighter over my previous Plus iPhones, (even though the Max trumps the Plus by 6g I believe in weight).

I was due an upgrade from my trusty 6S Plus ( still a great phone especially running iOS 12) I settled on an 8 Plus because I just found the XR screen too narrow. The keyboard felt cramped to me.I have bigger hands and typing with two hands is so comfortable for me with the larger Plus keyboard. The XR screen may be taller but I find that overall the UI doesn't really take full advantage of it. The keyboard has heaps of unused space below it. I don't find the longer screen more beneficial when it is so narrow. I love the 16:9 aspect ratio of the plus size screen. The 8 Plus display is beautiful as well. True Tone works so well in most situations and I find it reduced eye strain. ( I know the XR has it too. More comparing to the 6S Plus here)

It also made me realise that the 8/8 Plus phones will be the last in this form factor. I hope they have eliminated the notch by the time I upgrade next because I can't stand it. In the next two years I expect iPhones to resemble the new iPad Pros. They will figure out a way to shrink the camera and sensors into the thin bezel. Then I could see myself jumping from this form factor.

From the comments Looks like a lot of Plus user felt the same, it is too narrow and we want a Plus version of XR.

Not to mention it is a god damn thick pieces of thing in my pocket.

If only they could scale down the iPad Pro into a phone size, 5.8mm thin!

Guess it's all about the hands. I think the XR is the most perfectly balanced phone I have ever owned. I have small hands and can stretch to reach the opposite side of the screen without feeling like I'm going to drop it. Could not do that with my 7+ or Pixel 2 XL. And while in the apple store getting a battery replacement on our old 6 I was playing with a Max and thought it was way too top heavy for me.

I find the XR to be the perfect “Goldilocks” size. I can one hand the XR much easier (but I do use it 2 hands a lot still).

I’m coming from a 6+ since launch, and middle of this year upgraded to a the smaller 8. Maybe if I didn’t have the smaller 8 for a few months I’ll feel the XR is a bit narrow. But going from the 8 to the XR makes me feel like I have space again! :p

I tried the XS MAX on ATT before switching to TMOBILE for the XR (ATT had poor service in my area). XR is def more close in size and feel to the X and XS which was way to skinny. Before I had a 8 Plus and even though that phone was my first large phone I loved the size. Peferect for texting, didnt feel cramped etc. The Max was great as it was in the same body just more screen. I will be going back to the XS Max because it just fits me better. Not to say the XR is bad but just too similar to the X and XS in size and for me felt cramped. Some may find it perfect for them.

The aspect ratio of the XR definitely isn't ideal. Not sure if I'm ever going to be a fan of skinny screens.

I think the XR is perfect compared to the my old 6/7plus phones. The added thickness and glass back make going case-less easier than the super slippery all aluminum plus iPhone models I’ve used (didnt buy an 8+).

Easier to type one handed on XR than the plus was and feels better in my pocket than the old plus.

It’s weird. I got the X when it first came out and coming from a 7 plus, i thought it was way too small (and heavy). I then went to an 8 plus, XS Max then XR. The XR is the perfect size between the X and XS Max/8 Plus. Much easier to use one handed compared to the 8 Plus/Max but not as small as the X. It truly is the perfect size. The only thing I can knock against it is its thickness. It does seem much thicker compared to the past few iphones.

Isn’t the Max the exact same aspect ratio as the XR?
Yes it is, but the Plus phones are/were different. They displayed more lateral content, but less vertical content.

Due to how apps and content is developed for the two phones, the XS Max and XR show exactly the same content on screen. 100% the same. One just happens to be physically larger, and perhaps things/content are scaled slightly differently on-screen. You get more content left to right on a 6/7/8 PLUS-sized phone, but going from one of those to the XS Max will be just as disappointing as going to an XR.

I guess Plus owners are just frustrated that they can’t get the same amount of content on screen as before.

No. The size of the + phones is absurd, imo. The Xr is, just about, less absurd to be viable for me.

I went plus to max. I though the max would feel the same but it’s kinds uncomfortable. I’m going to an xr. Been testing this and it’s comfortable. It’s perfect but with a bigger screen then the plus.
