This is my issue with my XR too. Everything feels elongated and I’m not liking that. Guess it will just be something a I’ll have to get use to.coming from an iphone 8+ plus, I find the Xr a tad too narrow, with similar SETTINGS the text just seems to be squished from left to right. It's taller, great but I like that little tiny bit of extra fuller page reading view. It also is thicker, tiny amount mind you but I can feel it. It also just overall FEELs heavier even though the difference is very minimal.
If only they could have made the Xr same overall screen width, more height (which it has) and maintained the thickness of the 8+ or thinner even it would be pretty perfect. Not really sure why they didn't/couldn't other than protect Xs share. They SAY it's a bit thicker because of the screen, but the 8+ has a similar screen technology and it's overall thinner.
In the end, I'll stick with the 8+ another year. I DO prefer/enjoy the full screen UI experience though and wonder why couldn't we get that in a software update as an option?
Well, holy ****. I got the XS Max yesterday evening and I'm completely blown away. While the aspect ratio is still something that I have to get used to, the size of the device itself is perfect.I went from a 6S Plus to the XR. For me, the screen isn't wide enough and the aspect ratio feels weird. I've decided to return it and ordered a XS Max instead. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with that one.

Yeah, I actually tried to swipe up on my 6S yesterday to go homeI LOVE it coming from an 7 Plus. When I go back to my 7 Plus now, everything seems so squeezed together haha it’s funny how fast you get used to things. For example I wish the older iPhones had „tap“ to wake too
The XR is not a budget phone. If "only". You are buying a budget phone and wants it to be the best alternative.
No, the technology is not the same.
Again, you are buying a budget phone and want the same experience as a flagship phone.

One of the most surprising aspects about the Max, is that it’s actually very well balanced in the hand. It’s not too heavy in certain parts of the phone over the other, and it feels actually almost somewhat lighter over my previous Plus iPhones, (even though the Max trumps the Plus by 6g I believe in weight).
The aspect ratio of the XR definitely isn't ideal. Not sure if I'm ever going to be a fan of skinny screens.I tried the XS MAX on ATT before switching to TMOBILE for the XR (ATT had poor service in my area). XR is def more close in size and feel to the X and XS which was way to skinny. Before I had a 8 Plus and even though that phone was my first large phone I loved the size. Peferect for texting, didnt feel cramped etc. The Max was great as it was in the same body just more screen. I will be going back to the XS Max because it just fits me better. Not to say the XR is bad but just too similar to the X and XS in size and for me felt cramped. Some may find it perfect for them.
Yes it is, but the Plus phones are/were different. They displayed more lateral content, but less vertical content.Isn’t the Max the exact same aspect ratio as the XR?
