Are the new batteries compatible with the previous gen. MBP 13"? Where would you be able to buy one?

I was wondering this as well. Apple won't just sell you the battery for these models though, they will install it as well. The previous MBP 13 had a 58 watt hour battery and the new one is 63.5 watt hour. Assuming they're the same size, I wonder if one could get Apple to replace the previous MBP 13's battery with the new higher capacity battery when paying for the replacement. If not, maybe a third party can make a higher capacity battery (if not available already).

If you bought this from Apple, call them asap..they may be able to credit $100-200 due to the new machines coming out with better specs. However, if you are in the return period, without penalty, go for the upgrade!

I was in the same situation as the op, bought one from the refurb store. 2.53ghz, 4gb ram, 250gb hd etc for 1349 CDN, it is suppose to arrive today. So I called apple, and she told me the best thing to do is just order a new one and return the refurb'd one as soon as it arrives.

I don't think either of you guys understand what those words mean. No 13" (previous and current) has ever had dedicated graphics.

Sh*t. You're right! Well, I guess I suck bigtime then. :p

Apple should have used the new CPU's. Pretty poor that they didn't.

For the current model it is easy to confuse the two CPUs. Naming one integrated GPU almost the same as the dedicated GPU is just wrong.

"The GeForce 320M is not similar to the GeForce GT 320M, which is based on a GeForce 9600M GT"

Cheers,

The original poster might as well upgrade to the newer version- They're still within the 14 day return period (not to mention the rumored 30-day upgrade period) and I'm sure you could talk an employee into waiving the restocking fee.
Why stick with old tech when you can have very slightly newer tech with a better resale value for the same price?

To the OP, if you are within your 14days I'd try to get Apple to swap you out. Yours was $1499 at the time (assuming you bought new straight from Apple) as is the new 2.66GHz upper-end 13" so even if the upgrade is minotr (2.53GHz -> 2.66GHz, nVidia 9400m -> 320m), might as well get an upgrade for free if they agree to it. Good luck.

I am just wondering now... who is stupid enough to buy the upgraded 13" for the $300 premium when you a slight processor speed increase and slight larger harddrive? (no ram, difference anymore)

Same goes for the upgraded 15" models versus the base 15". The upgraded models are pointless.... and expensive!

I bought it in England where the new one is £75 more expensive! damn

Hey- why do you say there's a premium on the 13" Do you mean in relation to the MB? The 13" MBP is the same price as before (at least the base model is, I'm not sure about the higher-end one).

Actually...since the OP got a BTO processor on their 13", and it doesn't seem like there's a BTO option on the new 13", maybe they can talk their way into a 15", since there's no equivalent model?

Just a thought...

If you were attempting to quote me, I meant the premium between the new base 13" and the new upgraded 13".

there was no BTO for the processors on the older 13" either.

Yeah on the Australian store its $400 AU extra for the higher end 13" model, its absolutely insane that an aprox 10-11% cpu clock speed boost + 70 gb of hdd space costs that much. I just did a quick search and i can get a 500gb 2.5" drive for as low as $90.

To recap, before at least the 4 GB memory upgrade made it tempting to upgrade the 13" (I did this post-purchase, myself), but now....

And before the dedicated graphics made the upgraded 15" models tempting, but now....

I call bs on the 10hour battery. My late 2009 aluminum macbook lasts 5hours and its 45watt. How is a battery 63 gonna last 10hours?

Hi all,

I have bought a 13" macbook pro 13 days ago. It was the more expensive version with the 2.66GHZ processor.

If I return this tomorrow, and get the new one, what difference is there exactly?

I understand the 15" and 17" have a new processor, but for the 13" users, will there be any significant point ?

dude, return it and by the low end 13" since it has the same specs as the one you got, cept for processor but barely. plus 10 hr battery life. you save 300 bucks.

I'm in a similar boat... bought a 2.53, but I think I might be >14days ago. I think there are the following diffs:

  • Cheaper by $300 to get the 4/250 config, although the CPU is one bin slower.
  • Better Graphics
  • Slightly larger batter life.
