How are you doing that? In that mode mine (with FV2 on) goes straight to Safari and can't do anything else that I see.

I click on the Apple menu, and I have the option to change the Startup Disk. Given my view (and maybe yours :) of how and why this mode exists, I find the existence of that menu item inexplicable.

In the meantime, I have turned off the Guest/Safari user as I would prefer to not be able to locate my missing Mac rather than make it easier for someone to bang away at my FileVault drive by booting another OS.

I never even looked there because it sure was not like that before Yosemite. I agree, it is a shocking oversight.

I'm with you. Off with the guest account.

Given cops don't do anything even when provided with such detailed information, I am not sure how it can be useful in the end. Helping a citizen doesn't put money in the city's bank account.

That's not strictly true. I have at least one friend whose Prey tracking and in-built camera (set to film the thief using the laptop) was used in court and the thief went to jail.

But first you need to get a cop to issue the arrest warrant, don't you? Having the thief and its face can only help so much if 1- you can't arrest him yourself 2- you don't even know him

Although I've never put it to the test, I would tend to think that if you are able to provide the police with screen shots, key logging, camera shots, passwords, location, etc for the person that stole your laptop, that they would in fact follow up and make an arrest.
