I currently have a 17" MBP (stated in this thread). It's an early 2009, Core 2 Duo, 640GB HDD, etc.

I may be able to work out a trade of sorts for a early 2011 13" via the local Craigslist, but am not certain on the relative values of the two items. Can anyone advise?

Early 2011 13" MBP
2.3 GHz i5
4GB DDR3
320GB HDD
Intel 3000

compared against my

Early 2009 17" MBP
2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR3
640GB HDD
9400/9600
Matte screen
Speck case

Depends on what you need the 17in for, do you need it for the screen size only? Or light photo editing/movie editing? Because if you do need it for anything more, the 13in you currently have will do it better. Graphics wise the 17in may be a bit better. I would only trade it if you really want the 17in for the screen size.

To clarify, I have the 17"; someone is interested in trading me the 13" and an iPad 2 wifi 16GB for the 17".

Oh I see, well what did you buy the 17in for originally?

For the deal that it was. I had sold my previous MBP as I had a cash offer for more than I had invested in it. This 17" came available on another forum and they were willing to take a tablet I had with some cash on trade.

I know the 13" Macbook Pro will suit my needs. I am not happy about the screen resolution, or the glass, but what are ya going to do with a 13". At least I can use my external display at home.

I am just looking for a fair appraisal of the systems so I know if I am losing more than I should.

If your getting an iPad with the MBP I'd say the deal is pretty good, on Mac2sell.net it says your MBP 17" is worth $1120 and the MBP your going to buy is worth $940, but since your getting an iPad 2 with it your technically getting $200 More on this deal and so it benefits you. I'd take it before he finds out he's getting ripped $200 ;)

Well I would go with the deal as you are getting an ipad and another laptop so you are not losing anything other then the 17in screen. So go for it.
