not to dis the mac air, which I have and like, Post#1 information leads to a tablet suggestion.

Actually, as you can see on post #23, the thread starter already bought the MacBook Air, and a tablet like the iPad would not replace it for the purposes he want. Indeed, an iPad would not replace the MacBook Air, and would not perform the same tasks.

I still can't handle traveling for work without a laptop. I also have an iPad and treat iPad use differently from my laptop use. The laptop is for personal use on the road, not necessarily for work...a way to stay connected.

Thanks everyone for the spirited discussion. I did end up having someone help me get the student discount from Best Buy and I got the base 13" for $810!

How are you liking your new Air?

I've got it set up this weekend and am excited to take it on my next trip which is next week! The MBA resolution isn't an issue, the trade off on weight from my rMBP 15" is gonna be totally worth it!

I ended up making the same decision you did and went with the base model 13" and even the sales guys were impressed with the low price.

So far I am loving it and it is going to be perfect with all the traveling I have to do this fall!

Edit: So Best buy dropped the price of the older models by $45 dollars so I called and submitted a claim with their low price guarantee. I suspect that they will deny my claim because of the student discount coupon, but I figured it can't hurt to try.
