Just wanted to share some information around price match with Apple. I don't know why this isn't more widely known. I didn't know until this week. lol

As of today, 2026, Apple does price match up to 10% off the MSRP of their products. Not more, even it somewhere else is cheaper, aka more than 10%. I use my example. I purchased a base MacBook Air today.
MSRP is $1099 from Apple. Bestbuy, Amazon, Costco has them for $949. But Apple will not go down to $949 due to it being more than 10% off.

I started by chatting with a sales rep, but they are unable to price match.
You must call in and speak to a person over the phone. Of course you could try to visit an Apple Store at talk to someone there but I have read mixed reviews on success with that. So I didn't want to risk it.

I called in and explained I wanted to price match Amazon. I couldn't price match BestBuy because BestBuy is sold out of the base m5 Air in Silver, the item must be in stock and able to be purchased that day for the price match to be approved.
Wholesale clubs also cannot be price matched because they require a membership from what I was told.

The agent asked me details over the phone about who I wanted to price match, if it was in stock, if it was the same machine I wanted to buy, etc. He then submitted a price match request which took about 5 minutes to be approved.

He recommend I do an in store pickup so I can get my trade in credit immediately at the time of pickup which I agreed to.
Because I am getting more for trade in via any other place, that's why It made sense.

I did think about trying to sell my IPP on Swappa but simply didn't want to deal with the process. Not that its hard but I feel like $620 is fair since this month its 2 years old and I originally only paid $900 due to edu discount.

One important thing to note, Just like with buying from Apple Refurb store, if you price match and pay with an Apple Card, you cannot do 0% financing. Which is super annoying. Not a deal breaker but I did want to share. No financing when a price match is applied to an Apple Store purchase. BOOOOOO. Thanks!

Apple does not have an "official" price match policy.

Sometimes stores will do it, sometimes phone support will. But it's catch-as-catch can. Anecdotally, stores tend to be a better bet.

I'm glad you got the results you wanted. But to say "This is how it worked for me, so this is how it will work for you" is... naive, at best.
