OP, you're wasting your time. Anyone can list anything on Ebay for ANY price. I can list my pre-order for $200,000, is it worthy of note or attention? You're just giving this loser what he/she wants.

I’ve been buying and selling on eBay since 1998 and never been scammed once. My last major purchase was a new MacBook Pro 15” in August. Went off without a hitch.

The golden rule is, you’re buying the seller, not just the item. People who click buy it now without reading every word of the description, checking the seller’s feedback, paying with PayPal, and other exercises in due diligence are setting themselves up for problems.

Yes, but why should one have to go through all the background and digging info on the seller or buyer? And again doing all that leg work does not really mean you will not have a bad experience or get scammed.
You might got lucky so far since 1998 not getting scammed or attempted but that's not really the case for everyone else.
Ebay is a scammers paradise.

First of all, you don't know "everyone else". I'm certainly not the only person who's never been scammed on ebay.

I paid $3000 for a brand new MacBook from a seller with tons of great feedback, all for Apple stuff. It took me about 3 seconds to ascertain he was legit. For that 3 seconds of massive "effort", I saved $700 off of buying retail.

But it's ok, you can just go on being skeered of ebay...more bargains for the rest of us!

What the loser wants is someone to pay $10K for an iPhone. I am most definitely not giving them that. What the loser doesn't want is people pulling their chain about the auction. I am definitely giving them that.

I saw one yesterday with a buy it now of £165,000. My first 2 offers of £5 and £10 were declined. And so was my final offer of £15 with the message "Final offer. You're on drugs if you think you'll get your asking price". Oh well, I'll just keep my Apple order.

You told us about that macbook purchase many many times 😀
Its funny you claim that I dont know about everyone else but if you search here only here for a few seconds you'll find hundreds of threads with iphone ebay scams on either end weather a buyer or a seller got scammed and went through hell.
If you want to risk it its up to you but ebay is far from a safe place to buy or sell high priced items.
I only purchase small $10-15 items from there like cases, screen protectors etc....
I went through hell a few times trying to sell my older iphones from scammers trying to take advantage of me and try to get the device for free. Claim it was not as described, another one claimed it was icloud locked. Got mailed back an empty box etc.. The whole situation was a nightmare so dont even try to play it like its all fine and dandy with Ebay.
Its not.

I have seen items offered for outrageous prices on Amazon and eBay.

I have thought it might be money laundering. So who cares about the price. If you have to clear $10K, what better way to do it than through bogus iPhone launch sales. You don't even have to ship the phones to anyone.

If it's not this, then I don't know. I stay away from it.
