The 512gb X Max is a special kind of phone. The insane price is part of it. Even the 256gb phone I can kind of understand the pricing. What I can not accept is the fact Apple is strong arming most people into the 256gb. They offer the 128gb in the “budget” lcd model, yet omit it from the oled X models. Why? Pure greed. If an iPhone was made to order, my guess is most consumers would choose 128gb. People on this forum are NOT the normal consumer. Everyone will reply how they nearly filled their 256, and how 128 isn’t enough. The average iPhone owner is a soccer mom or a college student who doesn’t need 256. But most people would get close to maxing out a 64gb, or at least be fearful they would. I know countless people who have the 256 x or 8+ and have less than 50gb. A 64 would have been fine, but they worried. 128 is the sweet spot, and apple knows it.

As for cloud storage, that’s a viable option. I personally have 40gb or so of music files on my phone. Because of that, I use an LG v20 as my media player. It also has a hifi dac, headphone jack, and cost me $150.

Most people see the new prices as only being X dollars more per month, they don’t even care what the total price is because they pay monthly. $60 a month sounds good, even for someone making $12 an hour.

I don’t blame apple for the pricing. If everything was the same BUT they made 128gb the base storage, I wouldn’t have as much to gripe about. The fact they are damn near forcing you to pay extra for the 256gb is bad business. Apple will make money, but it’s left a very bad taste in my mouth. These phones are expensive in North America, but they are criminally overpriced in other countries. It seems the best strategy for someone frugal is to buy the previous years phone or go to android. iPhones are like a $4 can of redbull. Not worth nearly what they cost, but they are the best and people will happily pay to play. This is a sad day for me as a longtime phone enthusiast. It really sucks that a phone as nice as the X Max cannot be enjoyed by everyone, because it’s just too damn expensive.

Apple has been known to do this for quite some time. When I had to choose between 16 GB, 64GB and 128GB for the iPhone 6s Plus, guess which one I picked?

Storage has never been more important than right now. Apple has a top 3 camera. Both video and pictures can eat up a lot of space. Mobile gaming is bigger than ever. Micro sd cards are cheap, so I assume someone like apple can get storage for a great price. How much extra would it cost them to provide 128gb for the price of 64? They are losing potential sales from people who refuse to pay $1250 for 256gb, but they would maybe consider buying it for $1100 if it offered 128gb. It’s all messed up.

Obviously, I'd prefer 128GB in the base model. But with 64GB in the base model, last year and this year are the 1st times I've ever went with the base storage on an iPhone and not had to upgrade to the mid-tier storage to be comfortable. I have ~20GB free on my X most of the time, which is plenty. Feels nice not having to pay a storage tax to Apple on top of the customary Apple tax, lol.

Inb4 but but Cloud storage brigade...

But yes I agree, if you’re charging that much the least you can do is set 128GB as the base like you’re competitors. And include a fast charger while you’re at it.

How can one enjoy a phone? It is dead, has no soul....but actually for some people it is their best fried. They spend more time with it than with their family and will never let it go

One thousand ninety-nine dollars for 64gb is appalling. Will I pay it? Of course I will, I'm part of the problem. But it should be criminal. In fact I'll bet there are European Union countries where it actually is criminal. Only Apple could get away with this. But for how much longer, I wonder?

No one else could get away with this. Apple is king, so I guess it’s good to be the king.

I didn't read anything you wrote because you're right, at $1k they should have started with 128gb as the base.

How is it any more special than any other Apple flagship of its time?

I'd say the 8GB iPhone (original) was way more special for the time than what the X Max is.
Special in regards to the obscene storage and price to go with it.

4K @ 60 fps si going to eat up storage really quickly. That said, I will probably still get 64 GB just to save some money. I have to pay for my 200GB iCloud plan anyways. I guess I'll just have to deal with keeping more movies and photos in the cloud.

If I could cancel my iCloud plan and put that money towards the 256 option, I would. But it's not going to work for me.

I agree. I didn’t really think they’d lower the price as such, but I thought they’d do something like £999/£1149 for 128/512 for the XS and/or maybe throw in a fast changer like some of the rumours suggested

The prices for the higher storage tiers are simply staggering. Of course all the usual apple apologists will jump up and be like “wahhhh don’t buy it then”!!! But it’s defo making me reconsider whether I really need to upgrade from the 7

Gotten out of hand with their pricing. In Canada it’s absolutley insane, it’s over $1500 for a base storage xs max!

For $100 more I can get the 8gb/512 model note 9. The same storage on the xs max is $2000!

64 GB will work for me, not because I want the cheapest iPhone, just because I don’t really have a lot of media and applications on my iPhone. I can understand why some might want a higher storage for the base price, but it really depends on one’s requirements and how they use their iPhone. Altogether, storage has always been a debatable factor with Apples iPhone history, it likely always will be.

Apple won’t include a fast charger. They apparently removed the dongle from the box. They are frugal as hell with storage. Just penny pinching from one of the richest companies in the world.

That doesn’t bother me, maybe for others it does. As far as removing the adapter from the box, mind was in the box anyways and I use the AirPods. But that’s just an example of how it doesn’t affect everybody else the same way.

Understandable? Sorry but these prices are over the top. an iPhone 5 at the time was around 850€ in my country. Now there flagship phone is 1329€ (for 256GB because 64GB is useless.) I could almost buy 2 iPhone 5's for the price of the Xs. Then the Xr is around that same price point now at 850€ as well but that's just BS Apple.

Meh, I spend $3 bucks a month for my wife and I to share 200 gigs of iCloud storage, and our iPhones (both 64 gig) are only half full at any given time.

Apple's been pulling this "skip the most popular" tier garbage since the iPhone 6 came out. I am someone who always had to pony up for the middle tier model because of this.

Oddly enough, last year when they raised prices $50 but finally made 64GB the base storage, I actually saved $50 over all previous iPhone purchases because I was finally able to buy the base storage.

I have all my music on my phone (18 gigs or so) and right now have only used 29 gigs. A new 64GB phone would again work fine, but out of principle it's time for Apple to bump us to 128 base, but I don't think they will do that next year either - they were STILL doing 16 GB base in freaking 2015.
