Primitive Folding iPhone Built From Motorola Razr and iPhone Parts

I really hope Apple doesn't waste its time on a foldable phone. There's just so much more they should be spending their time on. Folding phones are dumb.

You have to admire the skills and perseverance of the guy who modded the iPhone. Still, being foldable doesn't really do it for me. I don't want an iPhone Crease.

Well, I don’t think the foldable ones crack, but they’re certainly not ready for prime time. That new flexi LG display shows promise, but until they figure out how to deal with the hinge distortion and gunk getting behind the display, it’s just a thought experiment. The Expanse phones also had this weird transparent thing going on, really impractical.

No I get it. I'm just more into the thinness of a credit card aesthetic versus the "it folds into TWICE the thickness" currently with foldables. I'd rather not look like I am trying to smuggle a brick through security or wear cargo pants...

I'm sorry, I just don't understand the appeal of foldable phones.

1. Twice as thick
2. Distortions in screen quality right where it bends (lovely when watching movies or scrolling text)
3. More likely to be scratched, especially when sand gets trapped between the two halves
4. High failure rate compared to a conventional screen

I just don't get it.

I agree 100%. Folding screens are a impossibly problematic solution in search of a problem.

No one said this was a usable product. They just wanted to prove they could do it.

As I last looked, we have our own opinions and freedom to choose what we think. again not impressive based on youtube people doing this kind of thing. My opinion does it bother you that much?

I salute them for all the work that they put into this. However, this also shows why just having a folding iPhone is not sufficient. This iPhone is so boring and not compelling. Shows why Apple is taking their time to come up with a compelling implementation, if they ever release one.

I wonder how many people here now saying they don't care or want a foldable will eventually buy the foldable iPhone, if exists. I remember people saying big screen phones were ridiculous until the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus went on sale.
