I have some PDFs with highlighted text. What if I want to print them on paper without the highlights? There only seems to be an option in the print menu for including or excluding notes in the printout but not highlights.

I also would like to send some of these PDFs to other people without my highlights. How could I achieve that?

I am aware of one method that lets me clear all highlights from a document via Inspector in the tools menu, but that seems a bit cumbersome for my purpose. I would have to first clear all highlights then print or export the document and then undo the clearing of the highlights.

Does anyone know of a better solution?

  1. Duplicate file.
  2. Open duplicate.
  3. Clear all highlights.
  4. Print.
  5. After print, delete duplicate, leaving you with the original PDF with highlights and a printed version without highlights.
Use Steps 1-3 to distribute (the highlight-free duplicates) to friends.

Ok, that seems somewhat more straightforward than my solution. It's incomprehensible Apple hasn't included an option to print from Preview without highlights though ... maybe I'll just use Adobe Reader instead, although it seems a bit bloated (1 GB compared to 10 MB for Preview!).
