Before downloading Lion I had an app called "Print Selection" that worked out of the Services menu. That no longer works on Lion.

Anybody have any suggestions how we can print selection?

Thanks in advance for any replies.....

I'm going to bump this.

I too am in the same boat. I did some research and found stuff two 'Print Selection' programs worked on SL and Leopard but they don't work on Lion.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas. I, of course, have already done the whole 'Google' thing.

Thanks!

I had one also that stopped working, but have found this one and it works well with Lion:

What browser are you using? I am using Chrome and I've tried selecting text on different websites then going up to the Menu Bar>Chrome>Services and it's not there.

I also tried Safari, same thing. I logged out after installing. And yes, it is installed in /Library/Services/Print Selection.service.

I actually have tried this service before and it didn't work for me on Lion.

Just to confirm, I am running OS X 10.7.2

Agreed with previous posters. I was using Print Selection Service 1.0 for a long time but Lion killed it. Just updated to Print Selection Service 2.0, but it's not showing up in my Safari>Services menu. When I look in HD/Library/Services/Print Selection.service the icon is crossed out:

I just found Print Plus but haven't tested it yet.

I just wanted to say that I'm also trying to find a way to print selection in OS X just like in Windows.

I just used Print Selection 2.0 with 10.7.2 and it worked as designed. Perhaps if you delete your copy and reinstall v2.0. Sorry, I don't (yet) have a better idea...

I noticed that I first had to enable the service to open textedit, then install print selection, then when I logged back in after install and was able to to enable the service via service preferences.

This lead me in the direction of success, enabling Print Selection Service v2.0 in OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. Granted, I just started pushing buttons until something worked, and these are the steps I took to the best of my memory. Individual results may vary.

  1. Downloaded the DMG, mounted, and ran the installer.
  2. Logged out when asked.
  3. After logging in, the service was installed and visible in /Library/Services/ but did not appear in the Services menu of Safari.
  4. Opened System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts tab > Services list, and enabled the keyboard shortcut for Print Selection.
  5. At this point I tested the default keyboard shortcut Shift + Command + T, and nothing happened. I changed the keyboard shortcut to Shift + Command + P, quit System Preferences, and restarted Safari.
  6. Using the new keyboard shortcut at this point worked for me and Print Selection appeared in the Services menu in Safari.

"Print Selection" available on Mac App Store

There is now an App on the Mac App Store that can do this. It's called Print Selection. Until the end of this week it's on promo sale for free.

I wrote a review of Print Selection, which you can read here.

Hope that's helpful to you all! I know Ive been waiting for a decent solution for a long time!

I have a solution, also had difficulty with print preference, however I have now managed to work this out. As follows

First of all highlight whatever you want to print and drag it to PRINT SELECTION ICON at the bottom of the screen, it will then pop up on your screen. Click PDF and it will open in a PDF format window, just then go to File and print. Should be OK.

Good luck.

@brianstanfill
I''ve downloaded and installed your recommended app into my Mountain Lion v10.8.4 machine.

Then I enabled the Print Selection as you wrote.

When I select, and right-click on the selection, I get an option to "Print Selection", and it will print.

But command-shift-T doesn't work.

I've tried to reconfigure the keyboard sequence to command-shift-P as you wrote, but I can't get it to work.

I've gone to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services > doubleclicked "Print Selection" in the right pane, then pressed command-shift-P and my system dings at me like I've done something illegal.

Suggestions?

Help!

Many thanks! :)

I installed the app from http://www.schubert-it.com/free/

Where is the "PRINT SELECTION ICON at the bottom of the screen" that you talk about?

I'm on a Mountain Lion v10.8.4 machine, with all the latest updates, and I can't figure out what you're referring to.

Do I have to enable something in System Preferences?

Thanks!

Easy Workaround

A PC friend of mine recently switched to Mac and asked me if Mac's did print selection. I've struggled getting the print selection installation to work seamlessly. The print-selection-service-20.dmg worked fine on my older G5 with 10.4.11 but I had trouble with my two newer Macs.
Here's what finally worked well for me. The Print Selection app in the App Store works great. It puts an icon in the menu bar that pops up the selected text and allows you to print it. It also shows up in the Services menu.

Another very easy work around is to use the service "Make New Sticky Note." This will open a sticky note with the selected text and you can print from that. No installation needed. I did have to remove an old backed up version of the Sticky Note application.
