Print to old Brother not working

My old, trusty Brother HL-3040CN worked flawlessly until I installed macOS Golden Gate.

The printer is connected via Ethernet through an AirPort Express and is discovered without any issues via Bonjour.

The Mac finds the printer just fine, but every print job fails with the error "Filter failed".
- I have re-installed it, same problem.
- I have tried to print from different apps, same problem.

Is there any way to fix this, or is it finally time to send it to the printer graveyard?

FWIW, this printer driver is written with Intel code. Ie, it needs Rosetta to work.

Try this via the Terminal, Code:
softwareupdate --install-rosetta

I had to install that to get ClipGrab working.

I had the same issue with my Rollo thermal printer. I had to delete it and re-add it to get it to work.
