I am considering upgrading the printer cable (usb type A Male to B Male) to a Mac Mini (late 2014) from the 2.0 to 3.0 version. The usb cable input that goes into the printer looks different on the 3.0 version as compared to the 2.0 version. Will the 3.0 version of the printer cable fit an older printer that was originally made for the 2.0 usb printer cable? Thanks for any tips.

No, it will not fit. And even if it did, you wouldn't gain anything. A USB 2.0 printer doesn't suddenly gain USB 3.0 functionality because it is connected with a USB 3.0 cable.
