Hi, group!

I really need some help here.

I own a Color Laser Jet Pro 254dw which always worked very well (and still does).

My problem is: to buy all three color toners is a bunch of money... and I prefer to buy a new HP Color Laser Jet Pro 3302dw or 4202dw to print at home.

My question is: will that new printer connect easily to my iMac OS Tahoe? That is, there are no drivers, now, but I believe the printer and/or the computer have somehow built-in capabilities to connect to each other and work together with no hassles.

What d'you think?

Any help will be much, much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

If the printer supports AirPrint, it will work and won't need any additional driver.
Yeah, I heard about that (probably that's how the 254dw was connected, but I don't remember), but I have to see in the box if there is that possibility.
The HP guys showed me another way of doing it.

Thanks for your invaluable help.

^this. And not just for AirPrint.

MFI page has all sorts of Apple approved gear, if want to determine compatibility. Less important in this day and age but if needed to find 32-pin or Lightning compatible stuff, that page was the place to go to make sure getting something that will work.

Hi.

Thanks a lot for your replies.

Isn't it silly my "old" ColorJet Printer is AirPrint enabled and the one I want to buy, much more recent is not???

At home I use an older HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw on my Wifi network. In this case both WiFi Direct and Wifi Network are"on, and HP ePrint is off. I assume that I could also "wire it" directly to the router, and this in turn (router) connects it to the network. I just use the third party toners sold at Amazon and other stores, since this printer uses a set of 4 colors. It costs around $50.00 for a 4-pack.

At home we print from the iPhone, iPad, and Macs as long as they are on the Wifi network.

According to the pages on the HP UK store, both printers have been Mac compatible since Catalina (I imaging the spec sheet hasn't been updated since Tahoe was released) and both fully support AirPrint.

Any printer that supports Postscript and/or PCL should be minimally compatible. You won't get to, say, select input trays, but you will always be able to print.

THANK YOU ALL, for the invaluable help.
I wasn't at home for 10 days and now I'm reading your posts. Is there a logo on the printers boxes, saying "AirPrint compatible" or "Airprint ready", or something like this?

All the best
