Thought I would check with HP if there was a driver for my Samsung M2070 (HP bought Samsung printer division) before I consider upgrading to OS11. There is no driver and will likely be no driver. So I may have to either not upgrade to OS11 or buy a new printer. Anyone else in a similar position? I suppose it's the advance of technology! But it does mean that yet another product has to be dumped and create environmental issues.

Are you sure the driver you are using in Catalina wont run in Big Sur ?

Lou
No. I was trying to ascertain whether I would run into printer problems if I moved to BS. Now you have pointed towards that download, maybe I will give it some more thought. Thanks. I still have problems printing from Catalina. Got the Catalina driver from HP (Samsung) but Airprint doesn’t work properly, so I connected a cable. What is that website? It doesn’t appear to be Samsung.

I updated my Mac to Big Sur 11.0.1 and now I cannot scan with my printer Samsung M2070. When scanning an image, it returns the message "Scanner reported an error". I reinstalled drivers, I removed and added the printer again, but unfortunately, it did not help me.

Are you trying to scan wirelessly? I had this problem with Catalina and had to add a printer cable to my mini. That seemed to work - mostly. It won't scan to a pdf file, only to a jpeg. As someone here previously said, printer drivers are now old technology and all scanning printing will be via airprint. I haven't moved to BS yet as i don't want to have to buy a new printer/scanner just yet but I fear the day is fast approaching where our M2070's are heading for the scrap bin. How can we solve the problem that newer technology results in environmental damage?

Whoops! Looks as if vuescan may be the answer - if it works.

Yes, I am trying to scan wirelessly. I've never used this printer with a cable since I bought it. I could scan images with Catalina, but it did not work with pdf, as you said above. But with Big Sur installed, I cannot even scan to jpeg (probably you could see it on the screenshot I attached).

Flowrider pointed towards Vuescan. A very quick Google reveals bad reviews. True or not - who knows? I am always wary of installing third party software. That was one reason I moved from Windows to Mac years ago but recent experience of my new mac mini has made me wonder about Apple's quality control. Their phone support people just seem to read from scripts these days.

Not directly related to Samsung (or Big Sur if it comes to that), but I had an issue with my HP not long ago, and no remove / uninstall and re-install of most recent drivers resolved issues. I had to manually search out all folders that had to do with HP (included deep in the Library) and fully delete them, then reboot. Starting the reinstall process, my Mac then 'saw' and installed the drivers necessary to make it all work. And it did.
Not saying this will happen for you (I've had 'issues' with Samsung and Mac in the past), but its worth noting most uninstalls leave crap behind that may interfere with a fresh install.

This seems like a very valid point.

I did a clean Big Sur installation on my old MBP, but still not possible to scan with Samsung M2070.

Update:
I did some experiments (both on my old and new MBP) and what I can do is:
- Colour scan does not work with any format and any resolution
- Black & white scan works fine, even with pdf (combining into a single document also works)
I don't know what is the difference from the technical perspective, but I will report it to Samsung.

I've used VueScan for many years on a variety of scanners without a problem. It's reliable and does a good job. I first got it because I was in your situation. Manufacturer stopped updating drivers as MacOS evolved.
The VueScan Help file says "In most cases VueScan doesn't need a driver from Samsung. VueScan is compatible with 99 Samsung scanners." They also say their latest version is compatible with Apple Silicon and Big Sur.

^^^^Yep, Me Too! Hamrick Software does a GREAT Job in keeping the product UpToDate. They are constantly issuing updates to keep it current👍

That is good to know. Does anyone know how this software integrates with the printing side of a printer/scanner? Or do you still need drivers for printing? Does it work with Airprint or must the printer/scanner be cabled to your Mac?
Thanks

I am using MacOS Big Sur, and all of a sudden I received an APPLE update on my desktop, and now my HP printer says PREFERENCE ERROR Could not load printers and scanners preference pain. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??? I have NO IDEA what to do, and I can't get anything to work. It also knocked off my Directv connection to the internet as well. Whatever this update was, it's HORRIBLE. Can anyone help me with that preference pain and reconnecting my printer??? I have no clue where to begin. Thanks in advance for ll the help and kindness. Merry Christmas.

You will often find that 'Image Capture' included in the OS, will work the scanner.
Open it, go to 'services' - not devices- and see if it's there.

Preference pane file is what's known as a .plist file.
Each app has a .plist file which the OS uses for its settings etc.
They are in the library so you will need to go into the library and find the one for your printer.
Then delete it, reboot the OS and it'll create a new one which will work
To get to Library hold down option key then > finder and open the Go menu. It's not there unless you hold the option key.
Maybe do a search where your printer plist files are.

Switching to black and white fixed it on my Mac mini M1. A work around is to do an overview scan in color and then use the Mac screen capture tool to select it and save as a screen shot.

You, my friend, are an absolute genius! Simply changing from color to black and white, solved my scanning issue. Why o why didn't I think of trying that? Take a nobel prize for reducing land-fill.

Thanks bro! I have the same problem with the same printer and same upgraded to BigSur, I almost freak out why the printer is not working properly until I find you answer here! Many thanks and I will also report to samsung!

Hi There!

I have the exact same problem. Have you found a solution to this? (other than taking a screenshot of the overview scan)

Thanks!

Hi everybody. I'm new here, and I have a little bizarre situation: my Mac Book pro runs the newest 11.2.1 Big Sur OS, and the Samsung M2070w works properly. Recently, I've got the new M1 chip Mac mini, and it does no find the driver downloaded from HP for the same printer. Could anyone help me? Thank you.
