I remember sitting there thinking "I just want to print one page. What is this thing doing for so long?"

Mine is about the size of the scanner/inkjet combo that I replaced so that was a big positive.
I've looked the printer you have and it's a good size. I have a feeling its when colour gets added into the equation the size doubles.

I have shortlisted 3 printers from Brother:
  • DCP-1610W : 385mm (W) x 340mm (D) x 255mm (H) 155.52 eur
  • DCP-1612W : 385mm (W) x 340mm (D) x 255mm (H) 167.52 eur
  • DCP-L2530DW : 410mm (W) x 398.5mm (D) x 272mm (H) 204,24 eur
Isn't that a bit expensive for France?

Another recommendation for Brother mono laserjets from me. I'd make sure that the printer supports PCL or AirPrint for long-lasting driver support (though AirPrint may not be going to help for printing from non-Apple devices).

These are Brother prices indeed. The last one is listed at 157€ on Amazon, same at another retailer, here.

I checked again and although it shouldn’t be an issue, this model is from 2014. I wonder if they have more recent.

Looking at the three systems equipped with KEF speakers in your signature, I assume you don't have to optimise for the last few dozens of EUROs on a printer (if you don't mind me saying).

For me, the Brother DCP-L2550DN would tick all my boxes:

+ can (automatically) print duplex
+ has PCL and Postscript emulation (in addition to AirPrint), so painless driver support even on other operating systems for a long while to come
+ has an Ethernet connection to connect to my router, to be placed discreetly, receive print job from iOS devices etc.
+ automated document feeder is very handy for scanning a couple of pages at once (compared to doing it manually on a flatbed)

potential downsides:
- no Wi-Fi. Then again, Wi-Fi is often outdated out of the box on printers. I prefer to keep my Wi-Fi network on a decently recent standard (and use WPA3 security).
- no duplex scanning (I believe) for more serious document scanning needs. But I have a document scanner for these needs (and you didn't mention scanning as a consideration)

It can be had for less than 200€ in France.
A worthwhile 50€ or so upgrade over the (more flimsily feeling) DCP-1xxx series, in my opinion.

Thanks for your message! I’m actually looking exclusively at wifi because I can’t get Ethernet in my apartment. AirPrint is a nice addition as I have only Mac devices and one Windows laptop for work. I don’t print for work, though.

I’ll check out your reference, maybe they have it in wifi. I’m very interested by the document feeder you’re mentioning.

I think a basic/middle range scanner/printer from Brother would be the best, I’m just considering if there are newer model.

And regarding your comment I don’t mind, I can put 200€ as I have 60€ gift cards from work.

Oh before I forget, I’d like to put it on a little furniture next to my desk so size should ideally fit on a square of 40x48 cm

EDIT: This one might be a great choice, it’s from 2017: https://www.amazon.fr/Brother-dcp-l...1690633214&sprefix=dcp-l2550dn,aps,118&sr=8-5

I bought one of those desktop stands that the printer sits on to reclaim a little desk space. It worked out nicely with the printer size.

The same thing happened to me with my Canon in that I lost my ability to use my scanner eventually. My ire is directed to Canon for not updating their drivers.

Have you tried VueScan?
If not, TRY it. At least the trial version.

Thanks, but I can't. After many years of faithful service my Canon inkjet/scanner finally died. I replaced it with the Brother laser.
