Hi Guys,

Below are some pics to help illustrate my problem:

I have a problem installing the correct driver for my printer.
I am using a os x and appletalk compatible print server from edimax, with an HP photosmart 7660 printer.

I have successfully installed the printer using a gutenprint driver for the 7550 (not the 7660) which works ok.

I can install the correct hp driver when the printer is plugged in via USB no problem.... but when i unplug it and plug it into the print server apple doesn't show me the 7660 driver in the dropdown list... instead i have to use one of the "pre-installed osx drivers, or the guttenprint / gimprint drivers"

Does anyone know why, when you install an HP driver, it doesn't appear as an option when manually installing a printer in the "Printer Info"- "Printer Model" dropdown menu.

Is there any way of manually selecting the driver or moving it to a different path so it shows up in this list.

Any help would be really appreciated.. i'm tearing my hair out at the moment.

Thanks, Nick

cant you manually try to locate the driver for the printer. I think thats an option in the drop down menu

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Well, i can manually look for the driver, but unlike on a pc, where you can point it to a containing folder for an .inf file, i can't find a specific file or generic extension that would refer to a printer driver. I have tried lots of .plugin and .driver files, but it just rejects them. If anyone knows where hp may store its drivers and what extension it would be, it may help.

Thanks again,

Nick

I use Leopard on my work imac and had to locate the drivers manually for Kyocera models. In the "Print Using" field i selected "other..." and from there its /Libarary/Printers/HP (in your case)

There should be a few folders in the HP folder and you will have to open them up to find the correct driver
