I have an HP PSC 1210, and am trying to print a picture in black and white. I used Preview to cut the saturation completely so that the image itself was black and white, but when I tried to print, the picture came out in varying shades of blue. Removing saturation and printing from GIMP had the same results. The thing is, I was able to printer text in black from TextEdit. I tried reinstalling the drivers and switching to the HPIPS printing system (simply to Gutenprint, formerly GIMP-Print for those not familiar with it), but it refuses to print at all, jobs just stop without reporting a specific error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In the Print dialog, did you try selecting "Grayscale" printing? It's usually in the "Quality & Media" settings section.
