Hi all,
Wondering if there has been any big, fundamental changes in the CUPS printing system in Ventura? Wondering if our many add printer scripts will still work.
Thank you!

Question of the hour, right?!!! Printer drivers/apps/etc. are the one thing I always expect to break with an OS Upgrade. Thankfully, it hasn't happened for me for a really long time.

Well, I've been hearing about CUPS dropping drivers and going airprint only for years now! Wondering when or if that hammer will drop.

Looks like we'll find out in a few weeks when Ventura gets released to the public. I tend to think something like this would get a lot of publicity if it dramatically changed in the way we're talking about.

My printer is Air Print, but there are lots of CUPS files on the disk and the “Add Printer” dialog includes the same 4 protocols (Air Print, IPP, LPD and JetDirect). So I think you find that CUPS works fine.

I just wanted to use some old USB HP Laser Jet and it seems like in Ventura they dropped function, that MacOS found you a driver and install it automatically. I had to manually download 500MB of HP drivers from HP site to get it to work.

Everything working fine after upgrading to Ventura when printing to an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w laser printer and an HP Officejet 7610 AIO inkjet. No loss of features or functionality.

I can't print. Filter broken and fails. Have attempted printer reset and reboots multiple times without success.

I've been using Ventura since the public release. Both my printers (both HP, one ink jet, one laser), which were already installed previous to the OS upgrade, showed up in the Printer Settings and worked fine, including scanning. I typically use the Image Capture app for scanning, so I don't know if the HP software actually works.

I have had three issues with printers and Ventura. One was resolved by modifying an HP installer to allow it to install. The driver was set to only install on macOS 10.x and below. I modified a setting within the package to change that to 13.x and then rebuilt the package and the installer ran just fine. This was for a fairly old HP InkJet printer that a secretary would not let go of, she's printing now, so I am happy. LOL.

My second issue is still unresolved and all searches only end up with "Me Too" responses. Very similar to the issue described in this Apple Discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254340524 Fortunately for me this has not appeared on ALL Ventura upgraded devices. Unfortunately the one device is used by a school district secretary that uses the Secure Print feature daily. The feature is still available, but trying to save it as a preset fails. The preset is created, but the settings themselves are not and the box to check to save those settings is greyed out.

The third issue was printing to printers that are connected via something other than AirPrint or IPP has been hit or miss, but I only have one model of printer that has issues with IPP connections, so I am not overly worried about that.
