I just want image quality. Does clicking on / off of this feature affect image quality? In other words, if i click ON (prioritizes fast shooting) and then just take pics slowly (one at a time), does image quality suffer vs with the feature OFF?

The feature is designed to adapt image quality/post processing to give the shutter priority. If you aren’t taking photos in quick succession then it won’t need to adapt image quality.
