I tried the Belkin one sold in Apple Store on my 11PM - it noticeably dims the screen compared to the clear one but it works.
Since you need to up the brightness, expect slight trade-off in heat and battery life.
It only blocks view from the side, so it’s great for banking in public. But it won’t block others from seeing what you Netflix in landscape.

I have used the Kensington UtraThin Magnetic Privacy Screen for my Macbook Pro. I had a similar experience where the screen does dim more since the privacy cover is directly on the computer, but it is nice to have if you may have people looking over your shoulder or at work. You do have to turn the brightness all the way up on your computer to be able to read on your computer. The privacy screen has worked well for me.
