For the last few months I started noticing strange things first with YouTube being insistent on directing me to the Canadian site until I manually overrode it. Then I started noticing it other places as well. Upon using some tools such as whereami.com it was obvious that Private Relay was pinning me in Windsor Ontario Canada which is, as the crow flies, almost 500 miles away from me. I live well well away from the Canadian border.

I usually keep ICPR set to keep my general location which has traditionally almost always pinned me in the nearest large US city. I tried changing to country and timezone but no change.

I've tested this on my mac, iPad and iPhone all with the same results.

I haven't seen anyone else talking about getting consistently (as in every time I have checked for months) dropped in the wrong country especially when they don't live right on the border. Anyone else here seeing similar?

I actually had this yesterday and it took me a minute to realize it was private relay doing it. The Steam app was freaking out because I was trying to approve a log-in that showed my area from the pc but the steam app on my phone was showing it was in Germany and I am in the US. I never touch private relay and it's always set to my general location as well.

i've seen people having the same issue. do u live near the border? maybe its connecting you to the closest servers they got.
if im not mistaken, there was an option to connect to a server in your same region or something like that, try that out and see if it works.

good pfp btw kek

could be wrong but i think that appears for everytime u try to log in with a vpn.

I'm more than 500 miles from the border, have tried both geographic options in Private Relay, and not only live next to St. Louis but also have Chicago closer to me than the Canadian border. There really is no logical reason I should be getting routed to Canada but it's been this way for quite awhile now with no resolution.

Specifically designed to maintain user region for website trust.

"Private Relay preserves the region the user is in, so your server can trust the region assigned to the IP address it sees. By default, connections are also associated with the city closest to the client, allowing your content to remain relevant."

The relay IP address is based off your public IP location. Your not being routed to Canada the IP assigned to you (regardless where in the world it actually is) has a Canadian location attached to it.

Private Relay only works with Safari so turn it off or better yet use a different browser and use whatsmyip and whereami to verify your public IP's location in where you think it should be (not Canada).

If everything looks fine without Private Relay then open a ticket with Apple.

All things I've already checked. In fact, I even bought a house, moved, and changed ISP since this problem began and I'm still getting bounced to Canada. When not connected to PR my IP shows my correct location.

Ticket has been open with Apple since the beginning but as with the several other tickets I have open with them, they just sit open and nothing ever seems to happen. Was hoping the community might have some insight.

Guess I’ll chime in that I’m having the issue too. My mother has been complaining about being in Canada recently and I had no idea what she was talking about. I finally got a chance to look at it and sure enough ICPR is causing her to show up outside of Toronto. We’re half the country away from there. She has it set to “Maintain general location” but in testing I switched it to “use country and time zone” which just put her in a very different part of Canada. Just noticed that 26.6 upgrade is available though, so going to try that next.
