Hi rrl, very true, I might be thinking too much. My advisor told me that most of the intensive programs would be running on super computers and my personal computer would only be doing scripting and data analysis. But my current Air gets really loud and hot sometimes when compiling. I heard that the new Haswell processors are super silent.

Thanks leman, I went to my local Best Buy to try it out this afternoon. With half brightness, it did feel more comfortable compare to last time I saw it. And what's nice is that they have all the 2013 versions on sale. I can have a 13 for $1027.89 and a 15 for $1412.19, with all the coupons and rewards I have accumulated. I will be deciding soon.
Your fears are probably unfounded and thus your reason is poor. Save your money and stick with what you have.
I'm a professional programmer writing this from my maxed-out 2010 11" MBA.

Brightness can be tweakedI usually have it at around 50%, but it can be turned up higher when the environment is brighter (such as outside). And sharper display is actually better for reading, although I am not sure I agree with the word 'sharper' here. More detailed would be more precise, I think.
