I got the base too but with a GVC screen :(. If I move the base of the phone away from and tilt the top towards me I can see a distinct green tint.
We just got two 17 base models to replace 15 Pros. My wife’s screen is perfect but I do have the green when tilting. I was at a carrier store completing a trade and an Apple Store yesterday picking up a watch band and a lot (maybe most?) the 17 models (Air, Pro, regular) exhibited this.

Given that it’s only prevalent when tilting top toward me and the other units I observed, not sure I have the patience to play the screen lottery game. I’ve already forgotten about it.

I am considering going without the screen protector. I installed one after I got the phone, but seeing the JerryRigEverything video and wanting to benefit more from the anti reflective, I don’t have a great reason to use one.

I wish it didn’t bother me. I truly do. :( I don’t even want to say I’m ocd. I’m just a dumbass.

I just finished setting up my base iPhone 17 last night (replacing my 16 Pro as my primary). Seems very much the same, but noticeably lighter in-hand. Screen is just as good as the Pro now with the ProMotion. Gonna use this as my primary for a while and see if any downsides or other noticeable upsides.
would like to know how are the thermals?

If they made a base model the same size as the 17 pro max, I would have gone that route. Since apple didn’t make this model, I got the 17 PM.

So I preordered the 17 Pro and I have been debating this all week. Then the other night we had the Northern Lights. My son took a picture with his 16 and I used my 16 Pro. I could see the picture quality difference between the two. That sold me on staying in the pro line.
How did they differ?

Did they both use the same (wide or ultra-wide) lens? Both using HEIC?

Interesting - trying to buy another base and every single one is OOS in all 12 local stores; and shipping is Oct 8-15. I'm guessing this will change at some point but EVERY single one? Airs are mostly available too! Guess the base did better than expected (or the production was just super small?) - or both.

Can we please stop calling this phone base. It's the iPhone 17 or the regular iPhone if you want, but it's far from base. The base iPhone is the 16e

I went from 16 Pro Max to 17 Pro. Battery life between the two are similar. I find that I prefer the glass sandwich chassis of the last few generations. I also don’t use the telephoto lens that much. Now that the plain 17 has Pro Motion, I’m finding it hard to justify the price premium.

I have a regular 17 arriving tomorrow. If the battery life is not a huge downgrade from the Pro, I may end up keeping the 17 and returning the 17 Pro.

How are all you base 17 owners finding battery life? Is it improved like apple say it is?

I can’t decide between a base 17 and the air so would appreciate your feedback!

So far, noticeably exceeding my 15PM (though that one is 2 years old at 86%) - but in general it's been excellent since set up Friday. And I've done a TON as I set up as new this time...

I'm coming from a 13 Pro and I can't decide between the 17 or 17 Pro (or perhaps keep the 13 Pro for another year since it's still running great). Would the cameras on the reg 17 be a significant upgrade from the 13 Pro? Even though I've gotten used to the 13P, would really prefer the lighter weight of the reg 17.

I feel like the 17pro weights pretty close to 16pm!

That’s good to hear thank you. Seems Apple may not be exaggerating the numbers on this one!

I disagree. It's the 17, the iPhone 17. Call it what it is.

The name 'base' implies it's some sort of entry level device. This is a $800 phone and looking at the specs is essentially a Pro without a 3rd camera
At minimum, 12GB RAM, larger battery, better microphones, Lidar sensor

I refer to it as the regular 17, though technically it’s the base iPhone 17 since it sits below the Pro with fewer cameras, 4GB less RAM, slower SoC, etc… Apple still really outdid themselves this year though; after finding out the Pro was sold out, I tried to get the regular 17 as well, but had no luck.

The regular 17 a monster of a phone for the price you’re paying. Definitely the best bang for buck in the lineup by a country mile.

No it doesn’t.

“Base” or “stock” model is always the lowest/lease modified tier in a series. As of right now, the 17 is the entry level product in Apples iPhone 17 lineup this year.

The 17 is a robust featured base model. In the lineup of the phones this year.

17
Iphone air
17 pro/pro max.

One could say the 17e would be the new base when it comes out. I’d disagree since it’s specifically modified downwards. But it wouldn’t be a terribly inaccurate statement.

Yours however is.

Remember, there’s a “base” Lamborghini. It’s still a Lamborghini.

I agree, but the Air isn’t part of the iPhone 17 lineup; it’s a separate line entirely.

I changed it. But I think despite apples efforts. It’s going to always be “model” air. Unless they go non numerical with iPhone, iPhone air, iPhone pro, iPhone pro max. Which I think is coming over the next few years.

For me the „base“ 17 is also the best looking phone in the line up (apart from the 16e). No distractions, clean lines. Especially the white one. Even better than the Air - the titanium frame looks a bit cheap I think. Anyway, this is just my opinion about the looks, not functionality.

It'll need to be numerical otherwise no one will know what you're talking about. Someone mentioned it might go the same way as iOS, but I don't support that idea. I reckon the Air will be its own line with the Air 2 being released next year alongside a new foldable device.
