    Hey guys , I bought an MBox 2 mini which has no Midi port.

    My electric piano does have midi ports though, so my question is, can i use a Midi to USB cable to connect my Piano to Pro Tools and have it show as a standard Midi device?

    Or does it strictly have to be Midi to Midi to be noticed as a midi device. Thanks in advance.

    Hey yeah Pro Tools will recognize any system midi device. Doesn't have to go through Pro Tools hardware.

    Anything like the Yamaha UX16 midi-usb adapter will work.

    No, MIDI and Audio have nothing to do with each other.

    However, you DO need a interface to translate between USB and MIDI -- you can't just use a simple cable. Beware of "MIDI" cables that are designed for PC soundcards and plug into the DB-15 Joystick port on the soundcard (the soundcard has the MIDI interface built in, the cable is just a breakout cable). These are specific to PCs and will not work on any Mac.

    MIDI Keyboard <--> MIDI-USB Interface <--> Mac

    Popular brands of interfaces are Edirol and M-Audio
