Hi guys and gals.

Like others, I am eagerly awaiting the next iteration of the iPhone. I am trying to decipher whether it will be worth it to get the Pro or whether I should go with a non-pro model. Obviously we don't know what specs will be, but if Apple follows what it did last year, the only discernible difference will be the third camera lens. Do I have that right?

I will be coming from an iPhone 8, 256gb and will likely want to stick with 256gb, even though I don't use anywhere close to the limit of that space. I would hope to keep the phone for three years.

Thoughts, recommendations, etc.? Again, I realize that we don't know exactly what the new phones will be, but I'm fine with using the 11 as a baseline for now.

Thanks.

My wife has a XS Max and I have a XR. Main differences are the display and cameras. Yes, her display is just noticeably better and the dual cameras give her more flexibility in photos but I didn't think it was enough for the extra price for me. I also liked the slightly slimmer size of the XR.

I probably won't go non Pro, but I am almost sure I will go Pro vs Pro Max, I don't really care about better cameras anymore, and saving $100 and waiting a month less are sure looking better an time goes on

For many people, the comparison will be:

  • iPhone 12 (128GB): $849
  • iPhone 12 Pro (128GB) $999

For a $150 premium, you're getting 6GB RAM, ToF, Telephoto, and 7P main camera lens. Even if those are the only benefits, I think it's worth it.

I was contemplating getting the new iPhone, but eventually got the 11 Pro today.

Having read the rumors about the battery, I chose the 11 Pro since the 12 is going to be have less battery capacity in general and battery is one of the most ”features“ in my opinion!

Congrats on the new phone. I'm sure you will love it regardless of 12. But do you really think they are going to regress on battery? That just does not seem right to me. It'd be too easy a target.

Thank you! Still getting used to it :)

That's what the leaks say at least. But we will see when it's released.

i am probably going from 11 pro max to the 12 pro will be easier to use one handed. i would get the normal 12 but if that graphite color is true then it would match my watch perfectly.

It depends on how you use your phone.

I use the 2x lens for 80-90% of the photos I take. If you take mostly selfies or wide-angle shots, that might not matter as much to you. The Pro will also have better sensors this year. So, you have to decide if you need that.

Pros also have better displays. Frankly, that doesn’t matter much to me — all the iPhone displays look just fine. But if you’re a gamer or spend a lot of time consuming content on your phone, it might matter to you.

Then there’s the whole 5G thing, which frankly won’t make a lot of difference to most people until the 5G rollout is much more complete. But some people just have to have the specs, for some reason. If you’re one of those people, you’ll not only want 5G but the best 5G you can get. You probably also own a car with a 1000-hp engine.

Now that the phones have been revealed, does anyone have any other thoughts? Mine are that the difference between 12 256gb and pro 256 gb is $150. It seems like the $150 would be worth it considering 50% more RAM, better camera (not sure how much I'll take advantage of the difference). But maybe I am chasing. What I don't want to happen, as I intend to keep the phone for 3 years, is to think, "Gee, I wish I would have gone with the pro." But I also don't want to overbuy. :throws hands up in the air:

Coming from a 11 pro, the weight is why i am switching to a 12. 189 grams vs 164 is a huge difference. And if you have Apple care its $200 difference not $150. Aluminum is better. Way better.

I chose the 12 pro to get the additional ram and slightly better camera. I am upgrading from the XS which in my opinion and for me it had a very good camera, so the new 12 pro should be even better. The Slightly extra weight does not bother me. I don’t carry my phone in my hand all day long, but in my pocket, so no big deal. I like the stainless steel over the aluminum a lot. I don’t want buyers remorse and wish I had the pro instead. People differ

To each their own. But to me i dont have a problem with the weight in hand. Its actually in my pocket. I live in Florida and wear shorts most of the time.
The xs is 176 grams, my 11 pro is 188grams. The 12 pro is 189 grams.

I didnt have too big a problem with my xs, but the 11 pro weight distribution was off to me. Felt like a metal plate in my pocket. You might want to handle a 11 pro since you really dont know what it really weighs in hand. The xs is not the same.

Actually the camera sensors are the same for the 12 and 12 pro. The 12 pro has a Lidar sensor and telephoto lens. Other than that, the main camera and wide camera are identical.

The displays are also identical. 625 nits and 800 nits are software limited for HDR only. The displays are the same.

All iphone 12 have 5g.
